About Me

Hello! I'm Jonathan, and I'm excited to see new places and have unique experiences. Currently, I live in Denver, Colorado, USA where I work as an electrical engineer at Burns & McDonnell (a consulting firm). When I'm not working, I enjoy hiking in the Rocky Mountains, hanging out with friends, sampling craft beer and delicious food, reading, or whatever else seems to capture my interests.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm traveling to France this December to visit a good friend of mine who is studying abroad in Clermont Frerrand, at Blaise Pascal University. He and I are going to be touring around France. We are both excited to experience your beautiful country and culture! I'm looking to see France more from the local perspective. Also, I'm new to couch surfing, and I would love to try it out! I want to meet you, and hear your stories. I want to get to hear about your life, hang out, and have fun.

Interests

Traveling, meeting new people, philosophy, technology, history, psychology, culture, how people learn, music, art, cooking, hiking, camping, and beauty. I could probably list more, but this is a good place to start.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some of my favorite books include:
-The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas
Why? This book is absolutely epic; a fantastic, complex, and riveting read. Dumas weaves a masterpiece which kept me turning pages for hours on end.
-Les Miserables by Viktor Hugo
Why? Hugo captures in my humble opinion what (for me) it means to be human through the story of Jean Val Jean. This story is also quite complex, but it's much more connectable in that for me, I find myself empathizing with the different characters which Hugo writes into his timeless tale.
-Silas Marner by George Elliot
Why? I think we all can relate to what it feels like to be lonely, and how human connection and relationship are (for me) what is the most meaningful part of my experience in this life so far. This is only a partial answer, but maybe we could discuss it further if you are interested.
-Jane Eyer by Charlotte Bronte
Why? It's a classic, with great character development, with a lot of drama and insight into the complexities of romantic relationships.
The Ender's Game Cycle by Orson Scott Card
Why? Science fiction is fun to read, and Card writes characters which are relatable in their humanity, while developing a fun and creative world in which the characters live.
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
Why? Lewis writes a beautiful world, full of wonder and magic, while embedding profound ideas into his writing.
The Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis
Why? See comments on the Chronicles of Narnia.
The Mark of the Lyon by Francine Rivers
Why? If you enjoy historical fiction, which has characters that are extremely relatable, then you would probably enjoy these books.

Favorite Music:
I enjoy most forms of music, some that I am partial to are folk, bluegrass, baroque, indie rock, and really anything that moves me. Some of my favorite artists are Gregory Alan Isakov, John Foreman to name just a couple.

Movies:
I love good story lines with complex plots, great acting and good cinematography. Chick flicks are also something that I enjoy as long as they have good actors, and the storyline is somewhat believable.
