About Me

Hallo hallo,

Jonathan

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meet people! But also to find a temporary accommodation before I move into an apartment of my own in Berlin. It would be amazing to get some tips from some local Berliners!

Interests

I like pretty much almost kinda close to everything. I do martial arts (judo and kung fu), I do a lot of wall climbing, I play hockey (just for fun), and I have been for three years a cross-country skiing coach for little kids. I also do downhill skiing, unicycle and biking.
I love cooking (especially deserts)! I have not played chess so much in my life but I spend last summer playing chess almost 2 hours a day. I like reading classic literature (although I'm not a quick reader). I am super passionate about architecture! I try learning as many languages as possible but it gets confusing at some point. I sing, play the concertina (kind of accordion), ukulele, just a bit of guitar, I play piano and would like to learn to play the balalaika. I have been singing in the Ottawa Cathedral Choir for the last 13 years now.

Music, Movies, and Books

I loooove The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (especially the longboard scene)! I know most of the replies by heart of The Lord of the Rings and Get Smart. I really like Star Wars, The Red Violin, and historical or architectural documentaries.
I only listen to good music... namely classical (all eras from gregorian, baroque, romantic to punk organ music), indie soft and pop rock and a bit of jazz.
Books... I really like to know what books were about when I finish them, but I do not love the process of reading (it would be false though to say that I do not enjoy it at all). I mostly like reading classic literature.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I killed a spider once, and it was a big one!

...ok, no. I am better than that. I went for a year to live in Hamburg, Germany. It was crazy amazing! The friends I had there and the adventures we had together are memorable; from seeing 5 operas in one day to swim across the super strong stream of the Elbe (river where the huge container boats travel to reach the city)... wow, that brings back a lot of wonderful memories...

Oh and once, with friends (back in Canada), we went in an enormous abandoned flooded quartz cave to do some rock climbing. It is kinda illegal but the place is so remote that nobody really cares... which makes it somehow scary...and thrilling! Search it up, it's called Back Mine Wallingford.

Oh and once I went in 7 countries in less than 2 months (I did not visit them all though)! Well, maybe it's not so impressive, but I used to think it was, so I'll leave it there.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn as much as I can in whatever field!
Whatever I can teach/share with you, just tell me!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share a nice smile... and great conversations... and some cooking! If there is some work to be done, I would be glad to help in any possible way.
