Overview
About Me
I have three girls, an amazing wife and dogs. I grew up in the south but feel I may never be able to repatriate to there again. My technical religion is Episcopalian and I work at a Catholic school BUT I'm basically spiritual and generally like anyone who doesn't spew dogma at me.
I'm part of the X generation and lately, I feel like one of the few who remembers what that was all about. In other words, I'm pretty liberal and hate racism plus I'm fairly Eco-friendly. Still, I like people who speak their mind and aren't always PC but can still try and look at another point of view.
Generally speaking, I like people who think and learn and grow. I like kind people. I like people who can handle their liquor. I like people who like animals. I like people who are usually just trying to keep their head above water. I like free spirits and open minds. Basically, I like people like me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Occasionally, I have a free weekend to show someone around Akita and can offer a good spot to get some rest.
I'm also planning on doing some travelling myself and hope to meet many interesting people along the way.
Interests
Well, I've been teaching English in Japan for over a decade so I'm interested in writing, free thinking and offering positive inpiration for young people. I love art and concerts, good books and critical thinkers. I've been an outdoor type person for years but I enjoy urban life as well.
I'm hoping to change careers in the next few years to one of my favorite things (albeit one I stay away from in Japan). I'm planning on taking classes at Oaksterdam university and hope to work in the industry. My plan is to, one day, open my own edibles line, produced from my own garden.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like music, movies and books. hmm...
books; Sf, fantasy, road trip and non-fiction are favorite types of books.
Movies; I watch a LOT of movies. SF stuff is my favorite. But I love kids movies like UP or Minions. I tend to watch way too much Nicolas Cage. I think Tarantino, Del Toro, Smith, Jackson, Whedon and Scorcese make great films. But there many other directors I love as well.
Music; I've been to many concerts and usually like artists instead of genres.
idk, beasties, bloc party, bjork, iron and wine, phil collins, chet baker, bob dylan, the band, hendrix, tricky, shadow, dre, etc...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've had quite a few amazing experiences. My guess is most of us have or will have. But to narrow it down to one amazing thing I've done is really difficult. It depends on who I'm talking to I guess.
Maybe the most amazing thing I've done is what I'm still doing; living life!
I've seen lightning strike in front of me, helped rehabiltate wild animals, made a life in a foriegn country, had kids, hiked the Appalachias(sort of) and that's just the tip of the iceberg but strangely it feels like I've still got quite a few amazing things coming up.
Yeah, life is amazing! so I'm doing it right now.
Teach, Learn, Share
creative writing, public speaking, dual brain exercises, breathing exercises, creating, recording and mastering spoken word are some things I'd be happy to help with.
I'd like to learn about gardening, website creation, small business ownership, the cannabis industry, yoga, the west coast, computer graphics, apple logic pro...
But I just love to learn anything really.
