About Me

Most important goal:
To be a good father to my 2 year old son bringing him up to be a confident and caring person,. (2017)

CURRENT MISSION
Find my place in the world. Find a good place to live and a satisfying job/ career.

ABOUT ME
"Kind, considerate, public spirited, good social conscience, good company, intelligent, good politics, interesting and interested" I got a good friend to write this for me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To stay places cheaply and stay with natives rather than just be on the tourist circuit.

Interests

This is far too long and sounds a bit serious, but I've got it prepared for something else so here it is....
Environment: I am a committed environmentalist; that is my focus which informs everything I else I do. I am about treading lightly on the Earth, preserving its beauties for future generations and aiming to live well, sharing with others who want to do the same, that which I have found useful.
Architecture: Advanced Energy and Environment Studies: My professional area of expertise is Energy Efficient Refurbishment of Buildings. I completed a Masters in at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales through UEL. I also have a Certificate in Ecology and Conservation from Birkbeck and did the Masters course in Conservation at UCL.
Cycling: I am a keen cyclist and Cycling activist. My degree thesis was on ‘Why don’t the British cycle like the Dutch.’ It may seem tangential, but transport is a large contributor to carbon emissions of any settlement and can be increased or diminished through design.
Languages: My first degree was in French and German. I am still fluent in both languages and pretty good at Spanish. I lived in Paris for a year as part of my degree and for 6 months in Spain working for an environmental charity in Sevilla as a Leonardo scholar.
Permaculture: I am interested in the Permaculture approach to life as well as the garden. I’m not a natural gardener but I love the principles and the idea of it.
Music: I play guitar and sing; I play tennis and am a keen photographer. It’s the one visual art I’m good any good at.
I am interested in Well Being and mental health. As part of this I practice meditation and Focusing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walking (or Tramping as the natives would have it) through the temperate rainforest of the Queenstown trail in New Zealand while on my gap year. Moss and ferns growing on the trees. Bliss of being completely away from civilisation yet feeling safe.
Being driven flat out towards two planks forming a bridge over a stream in a jeep in North East Thailand with several monks by monastery supporters. Feeling my heart in my mouth and wondering why they would be that crazy. Then a friend pointing out the Buddha figure on the dashboard and wondering if that was the justification: crash prevention icon.
