Overview
About Me
Now living in Birmingham for work after completing a Masters of Research in Creative Practices in the Glasgow School of Art, and a medical degree in Newcastle.
Before Glasgow I had a period of time being nomadic, and trying to pursue ideas I find interesting everywhere from Berlin to Bangalore, GuiLin to Glasgow. Some highlights were: Six weeks studying post natural disaster emergency medicine, some time in Vietnam and Japan, a month travelling through China north to south by train and boat, then a month in the south of India visiting family and working on an artist's residency in Goa.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To meet people who can show me what they love about where they live, and also hopefully be able to give something back to them.
Interests
I travel on my own quite a lot and I tend to gravitate towards art galleries pretty quickly whilst in cities. After that maybe, a pub, a park and a quiet place to sit in are the kinds of places I value and enjoy.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books - I'm reading Infinite Jest at the moment (and probably will be for the foreseeable future...), but my favourites are pretty modern and include: James Joyce, William S. Burroughs, Ernest Hemingway, Jack Kerouac, Hunter S. Thompson, Sylvia Plath, Oscar Widle, Robert Walser, Herman Hesse, Voltaire, Kafka, etcetera. Think allen ginsberg to slavoj žižek and everything in between.
For poetry I'm currently reading Mira Gonzalez, Spencer Madsen, Dylan Thomas and Mona Arshi.
Music - I have a record collection is full of a million different things, even pre-"dench" Lethal Bizzle. But favourites include: foals, glass animals, jai paul, rejjie snow, neutral milk hotel, goat, Stornoway, chad valley, atoms for peace, Bonobo, Caribou, dualist enquiry, metronomy, TEED, four tet, Jon Hopkins, Daniel Avery, mount kimbie, Matt berry, Beatles, Kinks, koreless etc. etc.. The last time I went into to record store I picked up some Puccini, some Goa trance and a Louis Armstrong box set. The guy behind the counter said I was nuts... Also smart rap is the nearest thing to poetry in music. Think: Kool a.d., Milo, Heems, Das Racist.
Art - Anything that's beautiful and/or makes you think. I've recently seen great things by Grayson Perry, Laure Provoust, Alex Prager, Simon Starling, and Billy Childish amongst others. Aside from contemporary art I'm a fan of Abstract Expressionism, 60s Pop Art, Russian Constructivism, the Bauhaus, Surrealism, neo-plasticism, I could go on, but I'd better stop there.
Films - Same policy as art really. My top 5 films are probably: Metropolis, Man With a Movie Camera, Control, The Dreams that Money can Buy, and Chappaqua.
TV - I don't really watch TV, but I try to figure out how there been that many tears over cake on the Great British Bake Off every year (I'm sure it all tastes fine...), and way too into American Football (go seahawks!) but mainly as a perfect exposition of the American dream (both the good and bad parts of it). I think that Community and Party Down are really smart though. I also have a huge soft spot for Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars which are very well written and beautifully shot...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When I was a kid I was on junior mastermind. Which is sort of impressive, however I did come last in my round...
