ABOUT ME

i'm a 26-year-old freelance writer from Nashville, TN. Trying out the South after a lifetime in the Northeast of the U.S. (Philadelphia and New York), and so far so good (especially the food and the music). I do a lot of music journalism and fiction; I'm a huge rock and roll nerd with a big ol' soft spot for pop music; I try to be hopelessly optimistic and traveling and meeting awesome people always makes that easier.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I took a road trip through the South and out to California summer 2013 and had an amazing time couchsurfing throughout most of it. Same goes for a 6 week trip I took through Europe in fall 2014. I've met so many fantastic people through CS and these connections allow me to experience a new place in all the best ways.

music: all of it. i'm a sucker for pop and dance, love country and rap, but my heart will always belong to rock and/or roll. some things i've been listening to lately: Sturgill Simpson, Sheer Mag, Music Band, Pavement, Beyoncé, Kanye, Car Seat Headrest, Father, Chance the Rapper, Kaytranada, Lou Reed/Velvet Underground, Downtown Boys, Patti Smith, Neil Young, Steely Dan, Run the Jewels. I will always believe Weezer's "Only In Dreams" is the best song ever written.

A bear riding a scooter in Lincoln, NH; Antietam battlefield on a disconcertingly gorgeous day; losing my breath at the Grand Canyon; walking around Yosemite National Park; eating at the Little A'Le'Inn in Rachel, Nevada, right around Area 51; being welcomed to the small, but wonderful town of Montevallo, Alabama; the outrageous May Day Parade in Minneapolis, MN; the magical, mysterious Foamhenge in Natural Bridge, VA; biking in Copenhagen; watching the 2014 Swedish elections with Swedes in Stockholm; eating a pear in Paris and feeling my head cold clear up instantly.

Anything food-related, whether it's recipes, making a meal together, good restaurants or excellent holes in the wall. I also love to cook and make a mean egg-based breakfast, and am pretty skilled with a grill. I like sharing stories, learning weird facts about the places I'm visiting. I've also amassed a pretty decent well of not totally useless and completely fascinating pop culture facts.
