关于我

My insufferable wanderlust has obliged me to do what I've always wanted in my heart of hearts, to leave my 'comfortable,' privileged life behind in Florida, USA to find my life abroad. Come October, I'll be in Berlin to snap at juicy career opportunities in publishing/editorial and drink in my new home, life.
Before the one-way ticket I graduated with recognition from the University of Central Florida with a bachelors in English, Creative-writing. During my time there I worked for a magazine and nationwide literary serial, respectively. I am 24 and have always wanted to write. My birthday is June 16th, or "Bloomsday," a holiday that celebrates the events and author of "Ulysses," written by prolific 20th century novelist James Joyce, which all takes place on this very day.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I'm couchsurfing because in trial it facilitated many warmly human experiences across the globe, from Japan, Eastern Europe, and even America, that broadened my understanding of the richness of life. Through Couchsurfing, I have had more native understanding than say the perspective of a tourist from the opportunity to engage with intrinsically-motivated individuals. After utilizing couchsurfing for multiple small group travels, I am enthusiastic to take it to the more intimate level of solo travel as I move to Germany.

兴趣

I would say I am interested in the arts. I practice film photography, language, writing in various formats, and read 2-5 books a month. My hobbies/interests include (vegan) cooking, nutrition, gardening, reading/writing, shooting 'street' photography, cultural criticism, film, video games, zines, museums, minimalist travel, tomfoolery, and getting a laugh out of people.

音乐、电影和书籍

I don't believe in favorites, but:

notable movies- No Country for Old Men, Lost in Translation, The Pervert's Guide to Ideology, City of God, Birdman, Audition, Unbreakable,...

recent goodies (books)- Swamplandia!, by Karen Russell; Bad Feminist, by Roxane Gay; The Nimrod Flipout, by Etgar Keret; Flight, by Sherman Alexie...

Ok I lied. Favorite book is "The Sun Also Rises," by Ernest Hemingway.

I listen to a lot of 90's kid throwbacks mixed in with hardcore punk, screamy melodic stuff (think Saetia, Daitro), concept (but still 'gangsta') rap, and the occasional bossa nova.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

So many amazing experiences in life, but the one I am most happy for is when I negotiated an emergency nosedive into the Florida Everglades during routine pilot training. The single-prop plane I was in was nearly hit by another small plane when the instructor and I both veered down and out of the way, banking steeply into essentially free fall. By the time we managed to pull up and reach cruising altitude and speed, we were pretty shaken by how low our altitude really was. Unfortunately, that same instructor died just three months later in an eerily similar near-miss situation, where his respective plane's wing was clipped leading to a spiral. I think if it weren't for my hands being on the controls that day, there would be no more to my story.

I love to prepare dinners for my hosts because what is better than an edible token of appreciation, I wonder. Very open-minded, accommodating, generous, and down for whatever Hosts have in mind for the duration (sightseeing, dancing, nightlife, museums, hot air balloon rides, you know). I love teaching and learning languages with others. In the past I have gone to a music festival, mounted the alps via cable car, and spent a saturday night in a 5-tier subterranean club with different hosts through couchsurfing. I'm open about sharing and debating a multitude of topics, such as: visual art, literature, dialects, post-modern/post-humanist thought, armchair philosophy, pop-cultural criticism, etc, ad nauseam....oh god please laugh at my jokes !!
