About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To live my life like a local in the countries I visit as well as finding unique experiences along the way
ABOUT ME
Hi Everybody,
I'm Jonny, a 20 year old backpacker currently travelling a handful of the Pacific Islands.
I'm an easy going, up for anything kind of guy and love an adventure or just chilling on the beach with a beer in hand.
I love my sports, Rugby and Hockey in particular and when I return from my travels I will head to University in the UK to study Sports Science.
When I travel, I always try and join in with the local sports training or fun game on the street.
I'm the type of person who tries to stay away from the mass tourist/backpacker routes and instead tries to find unique experiences and places that only a few other backpackers would find.
I love mixing with locals and expats, telling stories over a drink or a shell of Kava and watching the sunset listening to someone play a guitar (i wish i could play).
Before my travels, I worked as a Waiter/Barman for 6 months to save up for my trip. I then left for Kenya in January 2013, travelled south through Southern Africa and ended up in Cape Town. I then spent a month in South Africa in local villages and hostels along the coast between Cape Town and Durban.
I then moved on to Australia to travel the South and West coast by sailing boat and car. I began to run out of money so I headed to Bali for 1 month, travelled around on a scooter before returning to Perth, Australia with a Working Holiday Visa.
I spent 6 months working on a Cattle and Crop farm in a small town on the South West coast called Bremer Bay where I was able to save up a bit more money.
Having replenished my funds, I headed into the South Pacific and to Tonga, I spent a month in Tonga experiencing the local way of life, drinking Kava and Island hopping using the Cargo boats.
I then moved on to Fiji which is totally different to Tonga. Tourists everywhere, backpackers on packages and hostels everywhere. I decided to stay away from the 'tourist' islands (yasawas) and I headed north on the ferry to some more remote islands. I spent 3 weeks living in villages, on a 12 acre desert island and diving the most amazing reefs I have ever seen.
I then moved on to Vanuatu (where I currently am). It is very undeveloped with only a few large resorts and plenty of local guesthouses. I again did some Island hopping to Tanna to see the volcano, then Epi to swim with turtles and dugongs and then on to Santo.
I am now heading off to a couple more islands before heading to my last destination, the Solomon Islands for another month of culture filled, cargo boat and conservation filled travel.
PHILOSOPHY
I live by the motto:
'live everyday as if it were your last'
I try to make the most out of my days, to be happy and always smile and be polite.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have so far only surfed couches but when I return to the UK, I already have a couple of people I have met on my travels who are interested in using my spare room when they visit the UK.
So as I have a few months over summer where I will be at home, I will be offering my couch up for any couch surfers.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Although I haven't done much couch surfing, the occasions where I have surfed have been very positive ones.
I spent 20 days with one couch surfer sailing his boat (also his home) from Sydney to Adelaide which was an absolutely amazing experience and one I am very grateful I did.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like a good adventure book like Riaan Mansur 'Cycling Round Africa' as well as some sporting autobiographies. Although, as of late, i'm reading anything thats available in English.
I'm in to a fair bit of mainstream music as well as some 80s and 90s music. I love a good singalong song.
Comedy movie fan for sure, the occasional action and documentary.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A 216metre Bungee Jump in South Africa as well as swimming with a Whale Shark and Dugong.
