About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be happy ...

ABOUT ME

I'm just a guy trying to find the next adventure.

PHILOSOPHY

"If it makes you happy, it can't be that bad."
-- Sheryl Crow

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can occasionally host and will occasionally need a host. Other than that, I have gone to a couple of the get togethers organized by the local couchsurfing community.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am pretty new to this. I haven't hosted anyone in my home or been hosted by anyone, but I'm willing to try new things...

However, I have had a chance to get to know some local couchsurfers as well as some travelers passing through. From having a beer to going to a barbecue, couchsurfing seems like a fun way to meet people. I think of it as a great way to have friends everywhere.

Interests

I'm interested in the great outdoors, cooking, reading, traveling, sports of most kinds, hanging out with good people, having a laugh, watching movies, and just about anything Star Wars.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh so many... here are some samples

Music: The Shins, Matt Pond PA, Rogue Wave, Fruit Bats, Death Cab, The Dodos, The Apples in Stereo, Frank Ocean, Justin Timberlake, Notorious, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, The Beatles, etc.

Movies: Star Wars (all), Lord of the Rings, Harry Potters, Batmans, Supermans, Back to the Future, Jim Carrey movies, Jet Li movies, Bruce Lee movies, Will Ferrell movies, oh so many more... I love movies.

Books: Gladwell books, Predictably Irrational, Freakonomics, The Book of Basketball, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Micheal Crichton books, To Kill a Mockingbird, 1984, the classics, and more!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to take two somewhat extended (by USA standards, they were quite long) trips to Southeast Asia and South America. To be more specific, I have been to these countries:

* China
* Hong Kong
* Vietnam
* Laos
* Cambodia
* Thailand
* Malaysia
* Singapore
* Japan
* Peru
* Colombia

On these trips, I've seen the beautiful Halong Bay, the Great Wall, breathtaking rice terraces, drank Inka Tequla with some Peruvians, been in a cage with a Tiger, gazed on Machu Picchu as the fog clears, bathed an elephant in a river, and many more awesome experiences. I could write on and on about these, but they are much easier to describe in conversation.

Teach, Learn, Share

While I am great at nothing, I am okay at many things. I can probably impart basic knowledge on many different things, but sharing an expertise would be difficult.

Two things that I have been fortunate enough to gain above average skill in is Cantonese and learning in the academic setting. So, if you need to learn Cantonese or have some math homework that you're stuck on, I know just the guy.

Some things that I would love to learn are different languages. I am fluent in English, semi fluent in Cantonese, and can scrape by with some Spanish. I would love to get better at the ones I already know and learn some new ones as well. Language should not be a barrier in meeting and connecting with others. The more languages you know, the easier it is to learn from other interesting people.
