About Me

CURRENT MISSION

IF NOT NOW, WHEN? See the world, experience new cultures and (flavor) taste new foods.

ABOUT ME

Hey! My name is Jon, but I go by "Boots"! I'm looking to make some major moves in 2012, most specifically heading to South America (Brazil, Argentina, Colombia) to see some amazing things and experience some amazing moments. My new year's resolution: Life is beautifully unpredictable, so I will follow where LIFE takes me.

To see my South American adventures, check out my blog:
http://bootslifeintheworld.blogspot.com

I love playing drums and play some guitar and piano. I love making music and singing, and am always down to jam. I'm a therapist (Marriage and Family), but I'm taking a break from that field to enjoy life and see the world.

PHILOSOPHY

IF NOT NOW, WHEN? - Incubus

I believe that life is unpredictable and that planning for the future, which could take you anywhere, is an overrated practice. I want to take advantage of the opportunity to explore and experience, taste, laugh, and share my life with others while I still can.

In the immortal words of Pitbull featuring Ne-Yo: "Give me everything tonight, cuz we might not get tomorrow"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As I travel through South America, I will be participating in joining various city groups, meeting with other CSers and hopefully finding hosts to make more meaningful connections with people who love their cities and meeting new people from different places.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been graciously hosted in Brazil - Rio de Janeiro (with Pedro) and Sao Paulo (with Amanda), in Argentina - in Rosario (with Nadia), and in Colombia - Cali (with Karen and Joshua). The idea of allowing someone to enter your life and engage with your friends, family and culture intrigues me. I have family and friends who have been through countless couchsurfing experiences and have only amazing things to say about it. I'm excited to see new cities and cultures with these new, fresh eyes.

I've also enjoyed spending time with couchsurfers being hosted in San Francisco by my cousin. Through these experiences, I've been able to see my own city and culture in a fresh perspective by spending time with couchsurfers.

Interests

My favorite thing to do is laugh and enjoy life. As long as I'm doing those two things, I can be anywhere doing anything.

I love to play music (drumset, guitar, piano, singing), take pictures of anything, create and edit videos, play sports (basketball, volleyball, golf, futbol americano, anything), hiking, biking (fixed gear/singlespeed and mountain), exploring new areas and learning slang from different cultures.

I like to discuss life and discover what makes me passionate. I also love to find out what makes other passionate.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I got to live one of my life highlights in 2011. I followed my favorite band, INCUBUS, around for a three city tour. I got to see them play RED ROCKS Amphitheater in Denver, CO, which was one of my life highlights. I've traveled to the Philippines, Mexico and Canada, and have been all over the USA.

Teach, Learn, Share

Some rando stuff I can teach you about: How to cut hair (even your own), how to play drums/guitar, how to build a bike and basic photography.

I think my specialty in life is to enjoy the random paths and moments that life sends my way. Making memories without making plans. Finding ways to laugh and enjoy my life in ways that may not make sense to anyone else. Being there for "you had to be there" moments.

I'll also show you how to cook the 2 dishes I can make: filipino adobo and grilled cheese sandwiches.
