If I don't respond here write my Instagram, Joosthfh
I'm Joost, a 23 year plant pathologist from the Netherlands. I live together with my Spanish boyfriend in Rijswijk
It is my quest to travel to many new places and get to know more amazing people! Will you be a part of my journey?
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
For me couchsurfing seems to be the ultimate way of traveling, because this way I can meet many different people while also having the possibility to do my own thing. It's an amazing possibilty to meet people from different cultures and to get natives to tell me what places to visit in the area, or maybe even show me around in their favourite spots. Of course it's also beneficial for my wallet! For me couchsudfing is all about the social aspect, so to show you have read my profile please mention your favourite type of pie/cake when you request to stay with me :D

Music, Movies, and Books
Music
My music taste is pretty wide. While growing up I heard a lot of my parent's music, which very diverse. Anything goes, from pop to rock.
I enjoy going to concerts and music festivals, which I usually do together with my brother and some friends.
I wouldn't be a normal person if I don't have my guilty pleasures. I have a whole playlist full of them for when I'm cleaning or cooking or showering.
I play saxophone, and really enjoy listening to anything with a big band.
Other than that I'm open to listening to almost everything, So if you want to show me your favourite music please do!
Books
I love reading! I started reading Harry Potter when i was about 5 years old, and since then I could always be found with a book in my hands. I've grown up with fantasy novels and I'll always love them! I'm one of the kids that really expected a hogwarts letter when I turned 11, and I was severely disappointed my closet was not a gateway to Narnia. I will devour almost any fantasy book you give to me, and I have quite a collection at home. Eragon, Harry Potter and Percy Jackson will forever hold a special place in my heart! I think my favourite series must be The Kingkiller Chronicles though, tied with A Game of Thrones
My interest does not only go out to Fantasty though. I also love reading crime and historical novels, for instance from Dan Brown and Ken Follet.
I also have a nice collection of classic english literature like Charles Dickens, Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters.
Movies
Movie-wise i'm pretty easy to please. I love everything from stories that fit on half an A4 paper to long, intense and heavy movies that really set you thinking. Of course the Fantasy (and Sci-Fi) genre comes up here again, and I love watching movies like Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Harry Potter, superhero movies, The Hungergames, etc etc. I have a (maybe unexpected) weak spot for romantic comedies.
Some series that i watch are Game of Thrones, Sense8, Orange is the new Black, Bones (really love this serie!), House, Once upon a Time, Shadowhunters, New Girl, Zoo, Vampire Diaries, Etc.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
For my erasmus exchange I went to study in Bodø, a small city in norway located above the arctic circle, for 6 months. This has been a great experience! Living so close to such pristine and beautiful nature in the arctic was truly amazing. Growing up in the Netherlands most of the nature around my home consisted of a few flat meadows with cows, crammed between ever expanding urban areas. When I moved to Wageningen in the less urban (more agricultural) east of the Netherlands I already felt much closer to nature, as National Park "De hoge Veluwe" is only around 20 to 30 minutes by bike. However, none of the nature in the Netherlands is as untouched and raw as I experienced in Norway. I consider chosing my bachelor plantsciences and deciding to study in Bodø as two of the best decision's I have ever made!
Teach, Learn, Share
I am always happy to talk about Dutch culture and history. I really enjoy history and love to talk about it with people from similar or completely different places and cultures. I love to have discussions about all kinds of topics. I'm super interested in biology and I will never refuse an offer to go out to explore nature and explain processes you can see happening out in nature to people who are interested to listen.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm a decent cook and I really love baking! I'd love to make food together. Maybe traditional food from my country or from your country, or something different!
I love getting to know new people and exploring new places, and im always up for discussions or just watching a movie or going out for walks in the region.
