About Me

Hello there! My name is Jordan, and I'm relocating to Fukuoka, Japan, after a dozen or so years away (I was a high schooler in Nagasaki), so I'm very excited to return to Japan. I'm moving from the U.S. Virgin Islands, where I worked as a boat crew and snorkeling guide at a coral reef.

In a previous and more respectable life, I lived in New York City and worked as an astronomy researcher. I've been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to live in a few countries and learn their corresponding languages--some of which, when I speak, induce only minor winces.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Beyond the chance to travel and meet people from around the world, I really value the friendships that I've made through Couchsurfing. I love the opportunity to get to know other people and value any shared experiences. It's a great community.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything Helen Oyeyemi
Invisible Cities, Umberto Eco
The Lover, Marguerite Duras

Casablanca, the world's most quotable film (here's looking at you, kid)
Ixcanul

Jazz and Bossa Nova
Most things classical, with a heavy emphasis on Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi and strong showings from Bartok, Stravinsky, and Dvorak. I used to have complicated feelings about Debussy but now we're cool.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hammock camped on the beach in Anegada, British Virgin Islands, where we free dived for conch and lobster. That was some good camping.

Teach, Learn, Share

In a former life I was an astronomy researcher, and I'm always happy to talk about the stars (and go on any tangents).

日本語も英語もどっちでも嬉しくて話せます。(日本語の方は時々少し変ですが。ごめんなさいね!)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Cheerful expeditions into unexpected conversational territory. Or, you know, friendly greetings and an otherwise respectful distance to allow you to live your life and go about your normal business unimpeded. Whatever floats your boat.

I'm also happy to help clean, cook a meal (I'm always at the ready with a nice salmon rub), and go on impromptu adventures.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Isle of Man, Nicaragua, Panama, Spain, Sweden, Virgin Islands, British

Countries I’ve Lived In

Costa Rica, India, Japan, Timor-Leste (East Timor), United Kingdom, United States, Virgin Islands, U.S.
