About Me

I looking to make Europe my new home soon. I'm testing out different countries before setting up shop for the next few years.

I figured out recently that studying international relations was my 18 year way of rebelling against super conservative parents. This topic came about accidentally in a job interview. That was fun.

I've spent that last 7 months in Europe slowly reflecting over an extremely entrepreneurial, economically driven, American capitalist upbringing. I just applied for a sales position at a big name company so, I don't really know what my conclusions are just yet. I'm assuring myself that it's the struggle to make a more excellent version of myself that is drawing me to this company, not the monetary ends themselves.

Enjoy the process right?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because it's fun. :)

Interests

- Live performances are a cathartic release for sure. I love seeing people completely lost in their work.
- Tasting my way through a culture.
- Sharing books
- When I want to be self-indulgent, I read about neuroscience, biology, psychology and philosophy. It's a sort of therapy that helps me to uncover my prejudices about myself and life. I think I might go back to university for this. I'm not sure.
-Democratization and filtration of knowledge

Music, Movies, and Books

Books
- Quiet by Suzan Cain
- Lean Startup by Eric Ries (great method to apply to life)
- Enders Game by Orson Scott Carb
- Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
- Beyond Good and Evil by Nietzsche
- Waking Up by Sam Harris
- Animal Liberation by Peter Singer

Movies
Guillermo del Toro, Kubrick, Tarantino, Hayao Miyazaki, Youtube - there are channels of gold (Ted Talks, School of Life, V Sauce)

Music
I like what fits the occasion. Usually, if I don't enjoy a song, it's simply because it doesn't fit what I want my reality to be at that moment. I'll listen to death metal, rap, intense movie scores and pop while running, but maybe some Tallest Man on Earth and Regina Spector while drinking out of a mason jar at some hipster bar in Austin. Starbucks seems to put me in the mood for jazz and big band, and Christmas, Christmas music - mainly due to the nostalgia of greater blissful ignorance.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Since out of the US I've learned to make pizza, bread and cake from scratch.
Bread was always a mystery to me.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've spent about 7 months challenging as many of my currently held beliefs as I can. This has recently become a painfully enjoyable process.

This has taught me to make some pretty amazing vegetarian and vegan dishes, though I still currently occasionally eat meat.

In my search to complete holes in my American education, I have found some noble online resources that are working to make information and knowledge more accessible and ingestible. It's an incredible feat to have a meaning of life proposed to you succinctly, convincingly, and with beautiful animations.

I can learn something from anyone. I don't think you necessarily have to have a passion, but if you engage more than a few times a week on a habit we could talk about, that would be fine with me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

- Mexican Cuisine/Spanish Language
- Meditation and current musings/philosophy about what we get wrong about life and how we teach those wrong things to our society.
- Companies, books and movements that are working to fix the above problem.
- Singing if you need a karaoke partner
