About Me

Hey there! I'm Jorge, a software engineer by profession, who build web and mobile apps for a living. But that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what makes me, well, me! I'm an incredibly curious person with a zest for learning new things.

Some of my interests include reading, finances, photography, chess, and history. I find great joy in expanding my horizons through different mediums. My wife, Yolanda, and I share a love for exploring new cultures and learning from people across the globe.

Together, we have embarked on countless journeys, seeking not just to visit new places, but to truly immerse ourselves in the local way of life. We believe in making friends with locals and engaging in genuine, meaningful interactions that help us understand the essence of every culture we experience. Our approach to travel is all about connecting with others, sharing stories, and learning from the unique perspectives of the people we meet.

Yolanda and I are both fun, friendly, and open-minded individuals who deeply respect the opinions and ways of living of others. We firmly believe that all people, from all walks of life, are fundamentally good and have something valuable to share. Our love for engaging in long and deep conversations has led us to connect with countless individuals on a myriad of topics, as we believe there is always something new to discover in the world.

We are passionate about everything we do, and we can't wait to embark on our next Couchsurfing adventure! If you're someone who appreciates the value of exchanging experiences, learning from others, and exploring the world with an open heart, we'd be thrilled to connect with you. Let's create some unforgettable memories together!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing, for me, is about embracing authentic experiences and connecting with people from around the world. I love socializing and making new friends, learning from people's unique backgrounds, and expanding my own horizons.

I'm passionate about immersing myself in local cultures and discovering hidden gems that most tourists miss. Couchsurfing enables me to explore the heart of the places I visit while also giving me the opportunity to share my beloved Mexican culture with others.

Not only do I enjoy being a guest, but I also love hosting and showing visitors around my city. Sharing local insights and introducing people to the vibrant customs and traditions of Mexico is something I truly cherish.

Interests

My fascination with programming stems from the intellectual challenges and creative problem-solving involved in building software. The ever-evolving nature of technology keeps me constantly learning and exploring.

I'm also passionate about finance and entrepreneurship, intrigued by managing money, investing, and navigating complex financial markets. My entrepreneurial spirit is fueled by a desire to innovate and create value, as I find great satisfaction in developing and launching new projects.

Music, Movies, and Books

When it comes to music, I'm not an avid listener, but I do enjoy rock and occasionally instrumental tunes that help me focus. My taste in movies veers away from traditional Hollywood blockbusters, as I prefer films with well-written scripts that make me think, show me unique perspectives or teach me something like documentary films, though I still appreciate mindless entertainment now and then.

As for books, I gravitate towards financial literature, like "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham, ancient wisdom from Seneca's stoic philosophy, and strategic thinking in "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. I've gained valuable insights from "How Not to Be Wrong: The Power of Mathematical Thinking" and "Algorithms to Live By," both of which cleverly apply engineering thinking to everyday problem-solving.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's tough to choose just one amazing thing I've done, as I've been fortunate enough to have several incredible experiences. Firstly, marrying my beloved wife, Yolanda, the love of my life, is undoubtedly one of the most amazing things I've ever done.

Another unforgettable adventure was flying in a small airplane above the jungle, landing on a rustic airstrip within a small clearing in the Venezuelan Amazon, part of Canaima National Park. We navigated the Carrao River in a curiara (a traditional canoe) before trekking to a stunning vantage point where we took in the breathtaking views of Salto del Angel.

Living in a different countries, the United States and Venezuela, was also an extraordinary experience that expanded my worldview and introduced me to other cultures and ways of living.

Another incredible adventure Yolanda and I embarked on was an unforgettable road trip through Mexico. We set off to explore the diverse beauty of our country, and it proved to be an awe-inspiring journey. As we traversed through various states, we marveled at Mexico's stunning natural wonders and delved into the rich traditions that make each region unique.

Along the way, we indulged in mouthwatering local cuisine that tantalized our taste buds and further deepened our appreciation for the country's culinary heritage. This road trip was truly a one-of-a-kind experience that allowed us to witness the breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality that make Mexico such an extraordinary destination.

Teach, Learn, Share

Drawing on my background as a software engineer, I would be delighted to share my knowledge and expertise in programming and technology in general. Additionally, my passion for finance and entrepreneurship could prove valuable for anyone interested in delving into these topics or seeking advice on managing their personal finances business or investing. I'm also always willing to share my Mexican culture and history as well as what I know of cooking traditional Mexican dishes.

I am eager to learn from others, as I truly believe that every person has something unique and valuable to offer. I am particularly interested in acquiring new perspectives on different cultures, customs, and ways of living, which not only enriches my own understanding of the world but also fosters greater empathy and appreciation for the diverse of human experiences.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As a guest, I would be thrilled to share my love for traditional Latin American cuisine (specially Mexican and Venezuelan) with my hosts, treating them to some delicious homemade dishes that showcase the rich flavors of my heritage. I also enjoy engaging in interesting conversations, sharing my culture, and exchanging ideas on a multitude of topics, from everyday life experiences to our shared passions.

More than anything, I value the opportunity to forge genuine friendships with my hosts, connecting on a deeper level and creating lasting memories together. I believe that by sharing our cultures, stories, and laughter, we enrich each other's lives and contribute to a more open-minded, understanding world.
