About Me

I like to meet couchsurfers who want to meet people before they want to find a host. If you read all this and at the end think, "I want to meet this guy", then we'll probably meet, because I think we can all feel when a request is genuine and interested.

I was born in Sherbrooke and spent the very great majority of my life living here. If you are the kind of CSer who wants discover a new place through local folks. That was what I always wanted when I travelled and CSurfed, and it is IMO by far the greatest way to discover a new place.

I have learned german on my own (along with a friend) a few years ago and have travelled 5 weeks to Germany afterwards, summer 2010; then I spent the summer of 2013 in Munich, completing my bachelors in Economics at the LMU as an exchange student, attending classes in german.

I work in the craft beer industry. I am utterly passionnate about gastronomy in every sense of the word, and beer takes a large amount of that. I am also a fervent fermentation revivalist; in the last 2 centuries, our race has pasteurized almost everything we eat, which was not the case the last few million years. I love to experiment fermenting food with my girlfriend, from the classic sauerkraut or pickles to the lesser known wild brews and foods from all around the world. I think this is a massive part that is missing in today's gastronomy and emerging "foodies" culture.

I was born here in Sherbrooke where I currently live, and know the city like the bottom of my pocket. I organize several beer-related events throughout the year, including a bigger one called Dégustabière, on which I work a lot for fun.

I like geek stuff, although I don't define myself as a geek in the casual, tech-oriented definition. I am a life geek. I like to understand everything that I come across, like why yeasts and bacteria behave the way they do, why we don't have the word "undictionaried" in the dictionary, how to construct the most insane german words, how I can optimize every muscle movement I make when I clean the dishes, why people keep saying "ec setera" when it's clearly "et cetera", and so on and so forth.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing changed my life and the way I think. My very first lonely voyage wasn't at all lonely, thanks to all the wonderful people I met through CS. Every experience was extremely positive, all the way.

I surfed 15 hosts' couchs in Germany back in 2010. In the spring of 2013 I went 10 different places where I met 10 wonderful hosts in Belgium & Danemark, and have had such a wonderful time with everybody.

Otherwise, some years ago I had the opportunity to offer my couch to a couple of very nice people who were visiting Sherbrooke, although it's not the first choice of travellers from abroad in the huge continent that is North America. Today, my girlfriend and I have moved together into a lovely appartment and would love to welcome other guests and make new aquaintances from all over the world, and show you our beautiful town.

Also, I work at the bar of a craft brewery, so I guarantee we'll go out late and have a very hyggelig/gemütlich time (google these danish/german words, they share similar meaning but are not directly translatable).

Interests

Have I mentioned, I am a craft beer lover? :-) If you do love to not only drink, but to taste, discover, compare, explore and dare try new beers, we will have a great time. Even if not, don't worry, we'll have a great time.

Other than that, music is one thing without which my life would be different. Everything ranging from powerfully complex jazz to very standard classical music, as well as the brutalest of deathcore metal and ultra creative electronic music, not to mention different folklores, usually gives me a good time. I have an increasing interest into the folk revival that is going on, especially when it stirrs notes from our own very special folklore here in Québec.

I especially love it when people make me listen to what they like, so that I can dive into their mind & feelings for a moment. I think a given music is not limited to being something you like or dislike, but that it's all a matter of which music is being played when, with whom, and where.

Music, Movies, and Books

I won't make a list. You'll know when we share a talk. I do appreciate pretty much anything that makes sense to my mind and that proves having been made with true passion when you see/hear/read it. Passion can always be felt, you just need to abandon yourself to it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Learn german all on my own, without any teacher :) mission--->accomplished. Several germans have told me I speak well and barely have an accent. Wenn du deutsch sprichst könntest du selbst urteilen.... ;-)

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach me a language, I'll teach you our funny quebec french slang.
Teach me everything you know, I'll be your most attentionate student.
Ask me anything I am passionate about, I'll be your most devoted teacher.
I can show you how to do beer & cheese tastings, or talk a lot about anything that pertains to craft beer or fermenting food.
I am here to share, because that makes you live feelings anew, which had made you learn or live these experiences in the first place.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Hygge. Gemütlichkeit. Trust. Truth. Experience. Questions. Beer. Especially beer.
