About Me

Hey everyone! Oh man, where does a person start? Firstly, I'm a 22 year old male, blue eyes, curly blonde hair (that's sometimes more trouble than it's worth!) fairly athletic build and a tattoo on my chest. I love people, and I love animals, and I just have a lot of love to give, ya know? I trust before given reason to trust. I don't judge people negatively but I definitely pay attention to the nice things they say, and the lovely things they do.

I sing, a lot. In the shower, walking, biking, working out, hiking and pretty much all the time. I'm not particularly good at it, but I love it. I also enjoy playing the guitar but there's a lot to learn, that's for sure!

I went through a tough time this last year (2015) I bought a truck, had it stolen, had the insurance fall through, had my friends truck blow up, lost my job, got a new job, lost that job (due to the price of oil guys!), fell in love, fell out of love, went on my first backpacking trip, lost a lot, but gained a lot of happiness and experience. Anyways, I'm kind of an open book so if you already like what you're reading, or what you've read, feel free to message me (can you message people on this site?) and talk to me for a bit!

Love always,
Joseph

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I recently have been broken up with. We dated for 10 months but it felt like years. I know it sounds cliche, but I wore my heart on my sleeve and now it feels like I'm walking backwards through water.

I want to see more, do more, be more. I want to wake up in new places, fall asleep under the shade of neat and wonderful trees. I want to hike mountains, and sit in hotsprings, chase waterfalls and love life like life was meant to be loved!

Music, Movies, and Books

Well, should I even mention Harry Potter, Pendragon, Eragon, TLOR, the hunger games, the maze runner and literally all Stephen King?

I mean, I could go on about books, and books, and more books but it gets rather exhausting even thinking about how much I love reading and what books I like to read.

Music? I love everything. My grandpa is a country singer, my dad plays hard rock, my uncle plays speed metal, my mom plays The Tragically Hip (on repeat) and I'm about it all! My playlist goes from rap, to parody songs, to city and color, to children of bodem, to classic rock... The list goes on and on... Basically, I love all music and if I don't *enjoy what a person's playing, I can usually still appreciate the talent gone into it!

Movies? Anything action, anything funny, anything rom-com... I covet movies that make a person think and can thrill the mind.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Now that's a heavy thought. I've done a lot of things.. I mean, one time I saved a little girl from drowning off a dock in Enderby, BC. She had broken her leg jumping and getting caught in the ladder and I sprinted 250 meters and then dove into the water, swimming until I got to her (the dock was quite crowded with people not knowing what to do and not knowing what was happening) and then I gently lifted her out of the water, and then performed first aid (basically splinting her leg with my shirt and a magazine).

But that sounds pretty far fetched and I want to give people a better idea of what I value as amazing.

The other night at work, at a dinner theater, I was walking by a couple of kids picking on each other about a spelling bee. So I walked up as the one of the children was trying to spell "attention" and listened. He didn't spell it correctly (kids, am I right?) and I walked in with a "weren't you paying attention?" and they all loved it. Then I went on break, thought of more words that weren't too hard but weren't too easy, plus a pretty difficult bonus word, and carried on to give those kids the best darn spelling bee ever, during a dinner theater show.

I should also note that if they spelled the bonus word correctly they got a dare, and they did spell that word correctly, and they did dare me to rip open my shirt (just a muscle shirt) and yell "I love the captain of this ship and I don't care what anyone says!"

I did it, and these kids and parents were dying with laughter. So in my mind, during a very important step in these kids lives (not dinner theater, their childhood) I showed them that being silly is not only okay, but encouraged and that laughter truly is the heart of love.

Or maybe I just had them laughing for the night and they won't even remember me tomorrow. But I'll remember them, and that's pretty amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach the basics of guitar chords and scales, a little bit of percussion, anything on a video game ( I was ranked top 20 in the world for Demolition in Call of Duty Black Ops). I can cook, clean, tell stories, jokes, laughter. I can share with you my hopes, my dreams and my fears. I would give the shirt on my back if it could help someone in need.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I cook, I clean, I'm great with kids, I'm kind, I'm happy and optimistic, and I can weld things. I'm intelligent and fairly experienced in life and most of all, I can share my love and happiness.

Not to mention jokes, stories, high fives, low fives, dances, silly faces and a multitude of other awesome fun stuff!
