About Me

I'm from the quaint, little town of Palmer, Alaska and I'm currently traveling with my good friend Tess around the eastern United States. I'm really into hiking, biking, reading, writing, cooking, eating, and exploring. I've never done the couch surfer thing, but some of my friends have enjoyed it a lot and it seems like a cost effective way to make new friends and see new places.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet people and explore new areas. Ideally, without breaking the bank.

Interests

Poetry, bicycles, ice cream, 20th century history, Super Nintendo, summits (tops of mountains, that is), art museums, Alaskan beers, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Obviously, I am a man that loves When Harry Met Sally, even though I fundamentally disagree with its basic premise. Other favorites include the Alien movies, West Side Story, and Jeremiah Johnson. ("Woman, I am your friend!")

I read a lot. Ursula K Le Guin, Amitov Ghosh, and Dave Eggars are among my favorite novelists. Raymond Carver is probably my favorite short story writer and his poetry is AMAZING. I've been trying to read Pablo Neruda's poems en español. It's going okay.

I've spent a few years working in Anchorage, Alaska's music scene (whatever that means) and my music taste ranges from bluegrass and western swing to hip hop and trip hop to 50s rock and 80s pop.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I gave a speech at my high school graduation in front of a couple thousand people. I guess that was neat.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can provide lots of insider info about traveling in Alaska and help you avoid the many, many tourist traps. (Cruises, no!!!)

I'm definitely looking to practice Spanish when possible and I always want to learn as much as possible about how the locals lead their lives.

As for sharing, I'm no amazing chef, but I'm always happy to prepare dinner for a group.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to tell you all about Alaska and hook you up with some great people up there that can show you all the mountains. All of them.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Germany, Morocco, Nicaragua, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In
