About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Teaching. Dismantling oppressive systems. Trying to travel, as much as possible.

ABOUT ME

I just graduated with a BA in English and Physics. I like traveling, meeting new people, playing music, canoeing/camping, baking. I've had a few CouchSurfing experiences and they've all been incredible.. I've learned so much about myself and other people.

I'm back in my homeland of Minnesota, doing a service year and preparing for grad school. Eventually I want to teach, but right now I'm figuring out what that means!

PHILOSOPHY

Assume good intentions, but hold high expectations. For yourself and others. Every person has the capacity to be creative, resourceful, and whole. Never stop learning!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've done a bit of surfing in the UK and in the US. I hope to continue meeting people as I travel, and hopefully I'll be able to start hosting people soon!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed in the UK and US. I've had nothing but good experiences, and I've met some incredible people. Great cultural exchange, wonderful way to see a new place in an unconventional way.

Interests

I'm an amateur musician. I like making music on my own, but also love to sit down and jam with people. I like to bike and swim when the weather is nice. I used to be an avid canoeist, and I really want to bring that back into my life. I get fired up on macro-thinking and micro-activism. Think globally, act locally. Good food and good beer, especially when it brings people together.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm always looking for new things to read and listen to. Some favorites are...

Marilyn Robinson, William Faulkner, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Tom Waits, Bibio, Tim Hecker, Oneohtrix Point Never.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was studying abroad in England, I went on a camping trip along the river Wye with a good friend. We did some (illegal?) canoeing and hiking from Ross-on-Wye down to Chepstow, where the river feeds into the ocean. Along the way we camped in backwoods, visited abandoned castles, and spent easter morning in the ruins of Tintern Abbey. That weekend we lived off of cheese, Nutella, and Guinness. Our Sunday brunch in Chepstow was the best meal I've ever eaten.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm still an amateur baker, but I can teach you a thing or two about bread and cookies. I'm decently good at fixing bikes. I love learning new things and sharing what I know. Bonus points if you can teach me how to cook your favorite dish.
