ABOUT ME

My name's Joseph, I'm 21 and I study at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. I love taekwondo, dancing salsa, singing and playing guitar or ukulele, late night jam seshes with my bros, and having great conversation over drinks or hookah. I love to learn new languages

PHILOSOPHY

I love Jesus and try to be like him. Love your neighbor and treat others the way you want to be treated is my motto. It's all about love to me and I try to treat everyone in a loving manner. I strive to be a friend to all.

Music, Movies, and Books

YARA! (I'm biased bc it's the band I started with my besties)
Kimbra, Rubblebucket, Hiatus Kaiyote, Band of Horses, Toro y moi, Frank Ocean, Miguel, Kendrick Lamar, Tito Nieves, Celia Cruz, Chance the Rapper, SZA... I could keep going forever.

I love memoir! It's my favorite type of story because it's real and there's so much to learn from the experiences of others. I really like Isabel Allende - I read Paula by her recently and now I'm working on some Hemingway before some Marquez.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I stayed with a host family in a fairly rural village in Cambodia for a week. My host brother and I became close despite our language barriers as Koiy did life with me for a week. He took me on a motor bike ride down a country rode, past cows, rice paddies and huts, to a fallen dam that was constructed during the Khmer Rouge regime. Koiy said that the sandy banks of the rivers are used as a festival ground every khmer new year. We sat on the edge of the dam and sat in silence as the river flowed slowly by. That's the furthest I've ever felt from home, yet the closest I've been to humanity.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach ukulele! I'm a native speaker of English so I'm always down to help out anyone learning. I can teach you how to make a bowtie out of a neck tie. How to use a sewing machine, or garageband or imovie. I can teach you to cook some filipino and puerto rican foods thanks to both sides of my family. I bake a mean apple pie and I can show you how to do that :)
