About Me

Hi, I'm Josh. I'm a happy and friendly Aussie (Australian) on the move to further develop myself personally and professionally by experiencing as much as I can. I love to enrich myself of the many nuanced possibilities in life so that I can then help others others discover and follow their dreams.

I am always keen for a laugh, and I really respect quality, friendly banter. That being said, I am just as easily engaged by quality conversation about the many philosophies of life and society. The nuances of why people do what we do really intrigues me and this is why I love to meet new people, I want to understand all walks of life as much as I can.

I have done a great many things with my life so far; other things I am passionate about is photography (@grapesey - Instagram), Fire dancing & breathing, writing (philosophical & humorous) , skateboarding & snowboarding, hiking and I'm definitely a strong advocate in helping people with depression/anxiety.

My previous role saw me work for Western Australia's not for profit emergency service ambulance organisation, St John Ambulance. I worked in business development and as a staff performance and development manager. I thoroughly enjoyed applying my skills learnt from previous account and staff management roles to help provide a tangible and quality product (first aid training) to people of all walks of life and income levels. My goal for the future is to assist more not for profits and start up companies that align with my beliefs and passions, in a pro bono capacity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to further develop myself as an individual by meeting and talking to as many people from as many walks of life as possible. That being said, I also value the time in between these meetings where I can write or reflect on my learnings.

Couchsurfing for me was another step in my personal development to further broaden my horizons and open my eyes to the world and the way in which we live together. The Couchsurfing application has provided me the platform to network with many other people on the same journey. Years ago, I don't think I ever would have been comfortable enough to allow strangers to stay in my home, and after experiencing the amazing generosity of the Couchsurfing community, I am utterly left in awe of how amazing and kind people can be. It is truly inspiring. I have truly met some beautiful and amazing human beings and I am so grateful to the Couchsurfing organisation and community for providing me with that experience.

Further to this, I am stoked to just to have a friendly laugh with people, generally at my own expense. Maybe even a deep and meaningful about the world and life in general.

Interests

I am really passionate about having fun and living for those 'Fuck Yeah' moments. Those moments that leave you with a massive smile on your face, goosebumps and a chill down your spine where all you can think about is, "Fuck yeah, this is LIVING!".

Generally speaking though, I am into photography, general fitness and healthy lifestyle, fire breathing & dancing, writing, finding and listening to quality music, hiking, meeting new people and talking about life and the way the world works.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music, it's pivotal to my life and how I maximise my emotions. I enjoy reading but also always up for a movie.

Music, my tastes vary so much, but if I said that my top ten bands would consist of Alt J, Asgier, Kim Churchill and Aesop Rock, it might encapsulate some of the styles I'm into.

I like books that challenge me to think, but rarely allow myself the time to read these days. Alternatively I consume science fiction fantasy, a guilty pleasure of mine.

Same as books, i enjoy movies that make me think about the world, that being said, like science fiction fantasy books, sometimes I like to chill out to something a little more chilled out to watch. I love funny kids movies like Big Hero 6 and Emperors New Groove. My favourite movie which helped inspire my own travels is definitely The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Adapted from a short story by Ben Stiller who also acts as the main character, it's an inspiring tale of an ordinary average Joe, trapped by the pressures of life, liberate himself over the course of an amazing journey. Definitely watch it if you're into travelling :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once chartered a plane out to a remote Australian community to deliver life saving first aid training to a group of young aboriginal kids to further enrich the local community and motivate local kids on safety and health.

I've jumped out of a plane at 10,000 feet with a free fall of around 40 seconds. One of the most exhilarating experiences of my life.

As a DJ, I played a warm up set to the amazing Porter Robinson in my local home city to a packed out nightclub and had Porter himself tell me he didn't think he'd do better than what I he thought was an amazing set.

I dance with and breath fire. Rarely for money, always for FUN.

I have my open water diving certificate and aim also to get my internationally recognised sky diving certification also. I want to be able to see the world from all perspectives and a personal moto of mine is to try anything once.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well I'm really into helping people get through their depression/anxiety, I'm not a professional by any means but I've got a fair bit of real world experience that seems to help me help others... I'm all about further developing this.

I am always willing to teach others basics to first aid if they wish. Although I can't provide a recognised certificate, they will at least have vital skills that may just save somebodies life, maybe even a loved ones.

I enjoy fire dancing and breathing and I like to share this with others. If you're keen to learn, I am happy to teach. I'm in no way amazing, but I know enough to be able to teach you some pretty cool tricks ;)

I really want to learn as much as I possibly can, right now my focus is on learning to skydive and attain my internationally recognised license. To see the world over from that perspective is worthy enough motivation for sure.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My funny, Aussie, Larikan nature, quality and friendly banter, respectful assistance with the chores, and passionate conversation about my many philosophies on life.

I'll hopefully at least get you to laugh though ;)
