Sobre mí

Heyo!

I am a graduate student in Germanic Linguistics and Philology at Indiana University. Ah luuuhv me some Old English, y'hear!

I've been in Tulsa since I was 12 and have a reasonable amount of Okie Pride, but I'm acclimating gradually to my new Hoosier home.

My undergraduate degree was in German, which grew out of an interest in language learning.

I'm very fond of music - I sing a bit and play electric guitar and bass. I like metal and hardcore of most shades, and I'm always up to see local shows.

I love hiking and especially I love being so deep in the woods that it feels like a challenge to get out!

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I started Couchsurfing when I studied abroad in Freiburg, Germany. I love the idea of a community of explorers and hosts for said explorers whose payment for lodging is simply the chance to interact with one another.

Música, películas y libros

Music: Animals as Leaders, Plini, Busdriver, Stereolab, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Pretend, Gorillaz, Jack Stauber, and beyond.

Movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, Mudbound...heck idk, I like quite a few

Books: I really like Anglo-Saxon religious poetry. Some of my favorite books are Black Boy by Richard Wright, Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko, The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis, The Stories of Jacob by Thomas Mann, and the Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm.

Algo increíble que he hecho

I traveled throughout Austria with a friend of mine when I was studying abroad, and we visited this ice cave in the top of a mountain called Eisriesenwelt, which was beautiful and nifty in its own right. But as we were leaving, I noticed a small pine tree growing out of a little area of rock on the side of the mountaintop, past the railing. I have a habit of collecting pine cones from all the places I've traveled, so I carefully climbed over the side of the railing on this unguarded little outcropping of rock and picked off a pine cone which is sitting on my bookshelf right now! T'were neat!

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I'm happy to teach or speak German and Norwegian with anyone interested in speaking/learning it! I'd also be willing to either teach what I know of classical singing, electric bass, or electric guitar to others, or learn the same from others.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I like talking about random things that have been sparking my interest recently, whether that's moonshine production or the Mississippian Era. I would love to make music with any hosts I stay with! I am a native speaker of English and also speak German and Norwegian, so I'd be happy to practice any of these with you if you share a foreign language with me.
