About Me

I am Josh, a free spirit and traveller from Manitoba, Canada! I love new experiences, making new friends, and getting to explore this amazing world we call home.

I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies in 2019 (with a major in Sustainable Development and minor in Geography) and am very passionate about living a simple, more eco-conscious lifestyle. My current work is focused on helping people heal on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level at a holistic wellness centre in my hometown.

l am also a co-founder and co-organizer of the non-profit Whoop and Hollar Folk Festival in Portage la Prairie (volunteer position). On my free time, I enjoy anything from gardening to dancing to hiking, and appreciate the opportunity to be involved in my community in various other ways.

Always living life to the fullest!!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In the spring of 2016 (May 8 - 24), I will be travelling the United Kingdom with my brother, and as students, we are hoping to get around lightly and cheaply. We are couchsurfing for the first time ever!! Most importantly, we look forward to meeting local people from the areas we are visiting and getting to hear their stories and experience their cultures, all the while making new friends.

A couple of friends from Germany told me about the couchsurfing site, and I was convinced that this would allow me to travel more like an adventurer and less like a tourist, and to experience the true local cultures throughout England in the most authentic way possible.

Also, starting in early June 2016, my family and I (if and when we are available), would love to host surfers at our home. Please read EVERYTHING in the "My Home" section if you are planning on surfing with us in Portage la Prairie!! Thank you! :)

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC: I love it all - well, just about anyway! I particularly enjoy pop and rock music from the 1960s-1980s. I also love the contemporary folk/indie music scene in Manitoba and across Canada...world music is awesome, too!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiked to the bottom of the beautiful Bryce Canyon in Utah, one of twenty-five American states I've visited.

"Conquered" an abandoned oceanside castle (800 years old) in Country Sligo, Ireland with my brother and cousin. We even found the secret entrance to a staircase leading up to the top level, which overlooks the Irish Sea!

On a personal level, I have been fortunate to experience - many times - the serendipity of existence, and have discovered the valuable reasons and lessons behind some of life's unforeseeable events.

Teach, Learn, Share

Stories, a place to stay, a listening ear, a helping hand. See more under the "My Home" section.

What I Can Share with Hosts

All my brother Alistair and I would be looking for from our hosts is a place to sleep while we are travelling...we are quiet and not into partying nor do we have high expectations...just a simple place to lay our heads would be much appreciated. At the same time, we can offer to help out in any way you'd like (cleaning, cooking, etc.), and we would love to visit with and get to know our hosts, and share stories about ourselves and where we come from in Canada!
