About Me

[ Based in New Orleans, whenever I can I like to meander around the country and the globe. I recently spent a few months meandering around the U.S. in a colorful van named Casa Colores. ] Looking to meet like-minded cohorts, collaborators, and friends to adventure with! Any bike-based introductions to your town will gladly be repaid in full. Intros to favorite food, watering holes, and adventures as well! ]

I believe that life is a magnificent gift: short and sweet, it should be filled with adventure, exploration, joy, laughter, light, music, dance and celebration. It's a priority to both share and contribute to such joy, as much as it is to indulge in it, and I tend to surround myself with wonderful people who hold similar values. I believe that we never stop learning, and that to seek wisdom and knowledge is a noble pursuit. To die happy, content, and wise will be a bookend worthy of life.

My path has led me to be self-employed, an avid traveler, and the captain of a DIY parading krewe in New Orleans that makes wonderful and grande beasts. I believe in indulgence as much as I believe in restraint: Balance is the key, and a goal worth fighting for. As is variety. Exploring nature, yoga, reading, riding bikes and listening to or playing music are some of my favorite pastimes, when not running around the city with friends.

Recent epiphany: I think J Mascis is my spirit animal. Zen Koala Guitar God.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Limited participation thus far, but the more I travel the more I realize that I'm less and less interested in meeting other travelers on holiday, and considerably more interested in meeting locals who can share their culture and exchange ideas with me. Even if it's just meeting for coffee, or a friendly email with advice. Good stuff.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Refer to the above. I rent a room in a large house so it makes it a bit difficult to host surfers, but knowing how amazing New Orleans is and desiring to share her beautiful subtleties with visitors makes me increasingly more interested in figuring out how to host.

Interests

I'm a self-employed & self-taught web designer. My job allows me to interact with so many people / groups / organizations / small businesses from New Orleans, I really love the opportunities it provides even if it isn't my dream job. It allows me to do some travel every year, which has included a month in Alaska, four months in Europe, a trip to Burning Man, and a month backpacking in the Sierra Nevadas (parts of the John Muir Trail) the last 4 summers. I'm formulating plans for another international trip this year: either India & Nepal or South America. But those plans might be postponed if I manage to buy a plot of land and start constructing my own house in New Orleans.

Some fun stuff I've done: I once drove 5,000 miles to get the 1,800 miles from San Diego to New Orleans. I've completed 99% of a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training course. I've kayaked 100 miles through the Prince William Sound in Alaska. I've snowboarded in several feet of fresh powder in Alberta, Canada until I was sweaty and exhausted and couldn't stop laughing as I lay on the cold snow. I've contributed to and helped lead the creation of some of the larger hand-pushed floats in recent Carnival history, including several Trojan Horses, a White Stormcloud Whale named Gilliam, and a Galactopus named Mo.
