About Me
Hey!
My name is Joshua and I’m originally from the Netherlands. I was raised bilingual in both English and Dutch thanks to my English father.
After finishing primary school, I moved to Barcelona, Spain together with my family, which was a life-changing experience for me.
It was incredibly hard to leave everything I knew behind, so I started to play the guitar as a way of transforming my emotions into something beautiful.
This journey of turning life’s challenges into creative expression has shaped me into the open-minded, positive, and life-loving person I am today. It taught me resilience and how to find value in every experience.
I am fluent in English, Dutch, Spanish, and Catalan, and I’m currently learning both French and Italian. I’m passionate about languages and curious about other cultures and people, always eager to hear their stories.
I also love doing sports, and I’m always up for an adventure—whether it’s exploring new places, leaving my comfort zone or diving into deep philosophical discussions about life’s marvels, challenges, and mysteries.
That’s me in a nutshell. Nice to meet you! :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I recently finished high school and feel like I want to fully live and experience the world and myself before jumping into the next study.
I want to get to know myself through travelling, as well as getting to know other people, other cultures, other landscapes and other ways of life!
This is why I am planning on going on an adventure for as long as I feel like it.
The world is immensely beautiful and I am drawn to discovering as much as I can!

Music, Movies, and Books
As a musician, I love and can find value in all types of music! My favourite genres are Blues, Soul, Funk and Jazz.
As for films, I am drawn to those that carry a deeper meaning, or inspire something new. Origin, Predestination and Interstellar are great, but so are Good Will Hunting, The Theory of Everything, Gladiator and the Lord of the Rings, as well as all the Ghibli films.
My favourite books are those from the Brazilian author Paulo Coelho. The Alchemist has always had a powerful life-changing influence on me every time I opened it.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I learned to compose, record, mix and master my own music album from scratch, all in my bedroom studio :D
I also work as a mountain counsellor during the summer holidays and have had some pretty good experiences.
Teach, Learn, Share
I’d love to learn about the local culture, history, view of life, religion, and language.
Furthermore, I’d really appreciate learning about what places to visit, what to avoid, and any other recommendations for the region.
Finally, we can share culinary knowledge and see in what ways our cultures coincide or differ.
(I covered the teaching in one of the next questions)
What I Can Share with Hosts
I am always happy to share my stories and have deep conversations about any topic!
I can also teach any of the languages that I have knowledge in.
Additionally, I can teach all about the language and emotion of music, as well as how to create your own sounds and songs.
I can even go for a run with those that like being active :)
Finally, I’m a decent cook with some knowledge about exotic spices.
