About Me

Update July 2021!! PLEASE READ. Hello, and thanks for stopping by my Couchsurfing profile. I have moved from my old Couchsurfing home and am unable to host until further notice. I reactivated my account to support the CS community which has been greatly impacted by Covid. I really enjoyed the years I was able to share my home with others and hope your travels are safe and happy. I will update my profile with more details once I have something to offer for guests.

For now, my old profile remains below.

For Surfers (2018) : I'm in NYC without clarity on all my summer plans yet. I will be taking a 300 hour yoga teacher training in the beginning of July and in September. I also have intermittent pet sits planned. During both of those times I’m more selective of who will stay with me if at all. If I’m gone, I could be interested in a room sublet if that’s something you’d like.

General remarks: for guests, I prefer that you share similar interests and a enthusiasm to meet me and my housemates. My house isn’t a free crash pad for strangers and I think this goes without saying, but I receive many bland messages that don’t indicate a kind of awareness about what I’m offering. A cultural exchange, some intellectual or emotional maturity appeals to me and it’s because of these experiences I still accept guests. Also, dudes take this to heart. The bulk of messages I get from guys are pretty lame.

For Hosts and curious browsers see below:

WHAT YOU ARE GETTING: Throughout my years, I've surfed plenty of couch even before this site existed. I appreciate common hospitality and am by no means looking for a free ride for anything. I love being active and to help, to cook, to clean, to converse, to explore, to dance and connect with interesting people. I'm generally open and intuitive so meeting folks comes naturally. Some would say I'm very open hearted, kind and attentive.

WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR:
Folks who are interested in arts and culture. Folks who want to swap travel stories and life experiences. Kind, self-aware, authentic folk who's sense of youthful wonder hasn't gone away with age.

THE DEEPER STORY: I've lived all over the U.S., originally from Portland, Oregon, but I have nestled in Brooklyn, NY since 2007. The stimulation this big city provides has somehow matched the drive I have for life. I'm always searching. One of my biggest passions here is building community. I live in an artist co-op and until recently we were operating a Bed & Breakfast in Downtown Brooklyn. The business itself is currently on hiatus until we open our other location, but our house still lives together as a co-op. Being small hoteliers in NYC was truly a remarkable experience. As you can imagine, we had visitors from all around the world and I truly delighted in my job to make breakfast and greet them when they woke up in the morn. All the permanent residents I live with keep our fingers on the city's fast beating pulses and since we were interested in the sights, culture and nightlife in the city we were able to provide a lot of tips for guests who were looking for a New Yorker feel. The folks I live with are amazing and I could write several pages just about them, but this is suppose to be about me right? Another huge benefit the B&B provided was that it covered a large portion of our living expenses which enabled us to work on other passionate projects. You could check out an article here in the NYT

SOME PROFESSIONAL STUFF: I've been interested in cooperative economics and besides new business development for our bed & breakfast, I started a pet-care company in Manhattan's Lower East Side. I also stay active here with all the art and cultural projects I view or participate in. For a little over a year, I was co-organizing pop-up cinema screenings for local filmmakers and hope to start a new series soon. I've been helping to organize small house-concerts. The last band was The Shivers played last September and it happened in our own living room loft space. ( http://foreverisaword.com ) We're due for another one.

I'm politically aware and for the past year, I've co-organized a pro-feminist men's group focused on intervention at the various levels of our lives, from personal relationships with women, men, youth and in a socio-political context. If you haven't noticed, here in the U.S. there's a lot stuff shaking. I'm fascinated about history and how the world will take shape over the next decade or two.

FINAL THOUGHTS: I've been accumulating a vast amount of experiences living a very unconventional lifestyle and am also excited about what the future holds when I choose unconventional traveling options. Last year (2017), i traveled through France and Spain as I made my way to a 10 day yoga intensive in Barcelona. I went to Japan in October 2016 and used CS for the first time. It was wonderful. I would love to go back there. I have this fantasy to bike in the Japanese country-side somewhere.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well, I guess. I've known about couch surfing for awhile, but never got around to making a profile. I suppose, you can chalk it up to necessity and being busy here in New York. When I made plans for Japan last year it seemed like an ideal time to try it. A profile indeed proved to be handy. Once I returned I began to receive requests from surfers to stay with me in NYC and I figured what better way to develop good couch Karma. Now with my trip to France and Spain coming, I hope I find some amazing folks there.

For guests: Say “being-ness” when you message me so I know you’ve sorted through this little essay. :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Many things, I've hitchhiked or biked back and forth, and up and down the U.S

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd love to share my recipes I use for guests in my b&b. I could teach you how to repair a bicycle.
I could teach you yoga, breathe-work and massage. I could fix your bike or your house. I could tell you a lot about my unusual life experiences.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Laughter for one. I'd love to cook for you.
