About Me

ABOUT ME

I was recently introduced to couchsurfing by my boyfriend, Paris, who is an experienced surfer and host. He has often praised the ethos and values of the site, and so I decided it was about time I got involved!

To paraphrase one of my favourite films, I believe above all in truth, beauty, freedom and love. I am a practicing Theravada Buddhist (though not a particularly good one) and a lover of art in all its many guises.

I believe that the Universe is an incredibly beautiful place, and that often all it takes is a simple shift in our perspective in order to see that. Beauty doesn't just come from aesthetics (although the value of aesthetic beauty - of beautiful scenery, of the beauty we see in the features of those we love - should never be forgotten) - we can find beauty in emotions and language and music and a myriad other things.

I also believe very very strongly in the power of love; familial love, romantic love, compassionate love, passion for a hobby or occupation. Love in some form should be the driving force behind everything we do, and we should never allow our love for the entire Universe falter. It sounds cliched, but I really do believe that we should love every living being wholeheartedly and unconditionally.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have never yet had a couchsurfing experience, though I have met a few couchsurfers, who were all amazing people! I am looking forward to my first experience!

Interests

My main passions in life are travel, food and the Arts. Though I am nowhere near as well-travelled as I would like to be, I believe that travel is the best educator. There's no greater way to learn about the world and about ourselves than travelling as extensively as we possibly can. Meeting new people - learning their stories, sharing their lives, trying their favourite foods - is one of the best things we can hope to do.

In my spare time (what little of it I have) I can usually be found reading, listening to music, visiting museums and galleries, or doing a combination of all three. I am truly passionate about art in all the wonderful forms it takes, and I always strive to challenge my preconceptions about art and beauty by learning about art forms I don't understand or know how to appreciate. A particular interest of mine is the art of Cambodia (where I lived for a short time) and I hope one day to specialise my art historical studies in this area.
