About Me

My name is Joshua Reade Harris. I'm 28 years old. I am apprenticing myself to a few simple questions: if only love has the power to truly vitalize us, how then can I learn to speak a language of love to each person that I meet? How can I learn to hear a language of love from each person that I meet?

How can I be in the world in a way that embraces the totality of my humanity, and our shared humanity, in all its diversity, joy, grief, confusion and ecstasy?

So, I am curious about you. What brings you alive? What special gift, what special knowledge, what precious piece of life do you hold? What songs, what stories, what of the fruit of my own life may I offer you that may inspire you to share some of the fruit of your life with me, in whatever form it takes, so that we both may live more fully and in the process keep life going? What exchange can we offer one another that will nourish and enliven us both, and give us each a new story to tell or to hold in our hearts? How can we make a greater beauty together than either of us could alone?

I am apprenticing myself to the living memory of the bards, gypsies, medicine people, and nomads of the world who have known what it is to feel at home while traveling through sharing the universal languages of song, story, dance, food, laughter and tears. I am here to tell stories and make new stories, to cherish memories and make new memories, and to offer my heart and my humanity to the world.

As part of this pursuit, I am dedicated to learning and speaking a language of respect and mutuality.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love Couchsurfing because I find that people who are willing to open their homes are often willing to open their hearts to learning, to curiosity, to sharing, and to exploring the rich variety of ways we can exchange with one another that are older and deeper, more nourishing and exciting, and more fundamentally human than the trading of money. I love Couchsurfing because I love to be part of that exchange.
