About Me

Originally from California, I've slowly been making my way east, first to Iowa, then Washington, DC, and now Rotterdam in the Netherlands. I hate driving, so being able to hop on my bike or public transport to get where I want is an absolute dream. Since I don't have an athletic bone in my body, I got involved in a lot of theatre and music during undergrad, and I've tried to remain involved through volunteering since. I also typically travel alone, since it really pushes me out of my comfort zone. It's led to meeting some really fun people and some crazy stories along the way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Like a lot of the other people on here, I really like meeting people from different backgrounds and experiencing new cultures. I got involved in Couchsurfing while I was in DC. A couple awesome people introduced me to the group there, and I ended up eventually even finding a roommate through the group. Having grown up in a very homogenous, insular community, it was great to find people with a similar mindset to me.

Interests

I enjoy volunteering- from teaching English to refugees in California to helping with summer festivals here in Rotterdam. One of my favorites was Fringe Festival in DC-- yay for free theatre tickets. I also just taking random bike rides and seeing where I end up. Finally, I will never turn down a good stout or porter- the darker the better.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been on Humans of New York, which, if you haven't heard about it, is a blog of pictures and stories from people on the streets of New York. And it was all thanks to the fact that I desperately needed a beer at 2 in the afternoon after a very long morning of getting lost in Brooklyn, and I was waiting for the bar to open.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd happily bring some Dutch snacks and hopefully swap some fun stories.
