About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get north of the Arctic circle, see some beautiful sights and meet some interesting people.

ABOUT ME

I come from a small village in the Lake District in a very beautiful part of England. For the last 3 years I have been studying and working in the north of Scotland studying the peatlands (болото) and I like to take the opportunity to see other parts of the world when I can.

PHILOSOPHY

Currently: don't stress yourself out for no reason.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Couchsurfed in Mongolia, Russia and Latvia and made friends I'll keep for life. couchsurfing is amazing.

Interests

My interests include hiking, swimming, reading (a special fond spot for Russian literature), board games and most of all talking and having tea (or a few beers!) with old and prospective friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

Very into my 1970s Rock, but also new progressive rock and some of the older blues. Also have a soft spot for folk music (Dubliners for example) and some of the new folk fusion bands from Scotland.

As for films my favourite director is Almodovar, but I'm rather bad at remembering my favourites

As for books my favourites authors are: Tove Jansson, Kurt Vonnegut, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Mikhail Bulgakov, Yury Dombrovsky, Halldór Laxness, Nikolai Gogol, Gabriel García Márquez, JRR. Tolkein. I'm always on the look out for new authors.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Found volcanic ash 2 meters deep in a Scottish peat bog.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell you lots about local Scottish and UK culture and if you are interested in the peat bogs I can tell you loads about that!!

I'm always interested to learn more about the world and the local culture where I am visiting.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good conversation and a cheery disposition. I also like to cook and have moderately good mechanical skills if you require help fixing anything!

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, China, Croatia, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, Singapore, Sweden, Turkey, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada, England, New Zealand, Scotland
