Overview
About Me
Originally from a small town in Wisconsin, I left a corporate career and the 9-5 grind in my rearview mirror when I caught the traveling bug. I have now traversed the country three times with my loyal co-pilot, Tigger, by my side. My travels began six years ago when a veterinarian told me that Tigger, a beautiful chocolate lab, might only have six months to live. I decided to make those six months the best six months of both our lives by setting out on a road trip. My love for traveling was born on that first trip and has never ended.
Sadly, I lost Tigger in February 2017, but before he passed we went ranch/farm hopping together around the country from Colorado to California. Tigger and I both knew that our third journey would be the last one together as we cruised down Route 66, and then on to the Grand Canyon, while Tigger stuck his head out the window of our truck and felt the wind in his ears.
I joined W-WOOF USA, an educational, cultural exchange organization and discovered it is a great way to meet new people and learn about organic and sustainable agriculture. The way it works is that you spend about half a day helping out on a host farm/ranch and in return receive room and board for that day. There is no money exchanged, just a shared experience, great conversations, and a wonderful learning opportunity.
I don’t claim to be a skilled farmer or gardener but I’m practical, resourceful and a quick learner. Some of my experiences have also included house sitting, house cleaning, pet sitting, organizing, babysitting and household management. I’m currently pursuing a business degree online, that allows me to add to my academic and life skills while on the road.
My experiences with Woofing have awakened a passion for learning more about healthy and sustainable living with a special focus on natural remedies, energy and holistic healing. I left behind a 25-year sales career in the hospitality industry and am moving happily and hopefully towards a sustainable and, one day, off-the-grid lifestyle.
I am very open to new ideas and adventures and especially enjoy meeting new people. I plan to continue my quest for knowledge, experiences and adventure both within the U.S. and internationally.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I participate by connecting with new people and once I decide to land somewhere, which could be another 5 years, my plan is to open my home to all the awesome people that have helped Tigger and I during our journey.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I had an awesome experience in Austin, Texas. A gentlemen, Ky Hote, opened up one of his cabin's for Tigger and I to stay in. We got the whole place to ourselves and he said we could stay as long as we want. We stayed for 1 week and got some much needed rested. Road tripping across the USA is fun, but very exhausting. If I ever go back to Austin, I will always have a place to stay!
Interests
I enjoy having a peaceful day, long walks, hiking, going to the beach and soaking up the sun. I also like to go out, have some great food and a few cocktails. Living and laughing are my priorities.
