I (Alana, from Brazil) am majoring in Mechanical Engineering and have been living here in US since 2013.
Joy (Dominican) is a Business Marketing, and has been living here also since 2012.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It is our first time looking for one host. As students we believe that travel is the best way to enjoy our youth and to add life experience.
Couchsurfing seems like a great opportunity for that, not just on the financial part (as international students we cannot work outside the university, so extra money is some that never happen) but also in meeting people with the same travel passion as us. Is an amazing opportunity to learn, grow and have new experiences!
I know that we have no references (YET) but we are look into having our first amazing experience that will come with an amazing reference too! :)

Interests

We love to travel, cooking, dancing, meeting new places and we also love photography!
But cooking is our real passion, actually we really like to eat, and we really enjoy to see the reaction on people's faces after eating our food, it is just so amazing!

Dancing is also another passion, from bachata to samba, hip hop to trance music, you will always see us moving our bodies!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is a kind of life fuel for us. We listen to hip hop, latina music, R&B, samba, pagode, trip hop and we are always open to new bands and new styles!

I (Alana/ the brazilian one) am a movie lover. From classics to new ones, one of my favorite directors is Quentin Tarantino, but I also like Coppola and George Lucas (start wars is poetry in movie form). To go to the theater is like a relaxing ritual for me.
Joy enjoys movies/shows that can her feel new sensations and feelings, stories where she can feel identify with... An example of this is

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Come to SCSU to start our college education, a place far and totally different from home was an amazing thing!
Alana:
One other amazing thing I did was walking across the Kapilano bridge in Vancouver. It was the most amazing view I had ever seen in my life.
Joy:
Walking by Melrose street in Brooklyn, NY.. Watching my parents smile at me just because they feel proud of my accomplishes.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can teach our language, also some brazilian and dominican dishes. Other thing is tips about our countries and other countries in Caribe and South America if you are interest to visit.
We are open to learn anything, thing about your city, new languages, new culture and of course new dishes!

We would love to share some cooking experience and if you trying to learn our language ( Spanish or Portuguese) we also would love to help you with that!
