Why I’m on Couchsurfing

"What? Joyce you are crazy!"
"They are strangers!"
"Wait, what? "
Those are the responses most of my friends gave me after I explained CS to them. They seemed to be conservative towards this new risky and unsafe way to travel.
Here I would like to point out the most valuable spirit of couchsurfing: To break through and to learn.
Being a pure tourist taking pics around every attractions, staying in a comfy hotel is definitely awesome. But aren't experiencing a true cultural exchange and looking at the lives of locals a better way to see touching qualities of people regardless their nationalities? I have to say it wasn’t just about finding a free place to stay, or the boldness of doing something risky.

I would like to host CSers or show them around my city as well! Only interacting with people that you have already known for five years would mot make you growth. So, why not take a step forward?

Interests

I am a devotee in language learning,music and shows. And I love being with people since I am a really talkative person. I love to explore new things, to reach new people. I am also a volunteer of Caritas, which I believe I can make a difference even though what I achieved are just some small things.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love mainly American, british and korean pop and I am a big fan of Pentatonix, Maroon 5, Big Bang and Justin Bieber (ok so i know he is quite "notorious" but his new album is marvellous). The german artist Cro and Chinese singer JJLin is also one of my favorites.
Basically I would say I like R&B music. It's fantastic.
For movies and books, I have became a Sherlock fan since I was 7. I like almost all detective stuff that I watched BBC Sherlock, White Collar, The Mentalist, Criminal Minds etc.
And I like to read romance(The characters are often unrealistically perfect. I hate that LOL). For books they are pretty much from Chinese author like TongHua桐華. For movies I would say Korean soap operas. e. g. The Heirs, Cheese in the trap and so on. When I was young, I liked Twilight... and believe me, that's only my past 😂!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing I have done (actually it is still on going) is joining the yearly exchange program in Austria. I got to adapt to a new school system, new host family and new classmates. Hardships definitely involved in my exchange like I originally did not know any German. I am pretty much proud of myself that I made a great improvement right now and I even started to learn Spanish. I guess the experience in exchange is the reason why I would like to try couchsurfing. In the past, joining a tour group was more preferred since I was not brave enough to adapt a "risky" travel style. But now, after travelling to Italy, Slovenia, Slovakia without joining a tour, I would like to make a great leap forward----- Couchsurfing!

Teach, Learn, Share

I will be happy to teach you Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) and share our Chinese culture with you. As I am a student studying Chinese history and literature, I can tell you some interesting stories or legends of us!
And if you are eager in Chinese or korean culture... I am probably a good one to be friend with!

What I Can Share with Hosts

To hosts, I am with my Austrian host family for almost a year and I understand what I should and should not do in the family. I am longing to show you my culture and exchange ideas on different topics! We will have a nice time together!
For surfers, I will do whatever I can to make your trip an unforgettable experience.
