My name is Joyce and I am currently conducting a research project on folk/kitchen cosmetics around the world. How are women passing on cosmetic recipes through oral tradition and family knowledge? I have no clue, but am working to find out, while backpacking across the world over the next year. I am passionate about a lot including dancing, acting, and learning new languages.

I am going to be in more than ten different countries over the next year, which sounds awesome but I know will be very lonely at times. I think couchsurfing will allow me to establish community in the various places I visit and overall enhance my experiences abroad. I love to meet new people and I think couchsurfing will definitely allow me to do that even though I will be visiting countries where I know no one.

I love to dance and especially love going to live concerts. I'm into hip hop, R&B, metal and other genres. I'm open to a lot of different music. I also play chess any chance I get, so if you like chess I'm your gal! I also love going out and meeting new people in general. I love the outdoors and love working with my hands. I craft my own cosmetic products for fun and am trying to start a business after returning to the states. I like learning new languages and am trying to improve on my Spanish and Portuguese.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Some of my favorite artists are Gorillaz, Flying Lotus, Partynextdoor, SZA, Jill Scott, Nas, Metallica, Drake, Kendrick, Aaliyah and a lot more. I love Quentin Tarantino and can watch Pulp Fiction over and over again. Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Inglorious Bastards are in the same boat. My favorite book thus far is probably Junot Diaz "This Is How You Lose Her" and "The Watchmen". I am in love with all types of graphic novels, Neil Gaiman is everything, and love to visit comic shops all over the states.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

I backpacked through Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras in a little less than three weeks by bus and it was definitely an experience to say the least. That was the most arduous trip I have ever taken.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Teach: I can teach both English and Portuguese, so if you are willing to learn then I'm willing to teach. I like to dance, so if you need some dance lessons then let's make it happen. Although, hip hop is the only style I know.

I am respectful of other people's spaces and always mindful of cleaning up after myself. I am also not a bad cook and willing to help out with any household meals or chores. I am really excited to meet new people and am always down to go out and have a good time. I have an open mind and heart and can't wait to meet you, whoever you are!
