About Me

We’re Daryle and Joyce, a husband-and-wife duo with a passion for meaningful travel and storytelling. Over a decade ago, we set off on a 14-month round-the-world journey that forever changed our perspective on life. Since then, we’ve embraced a lifestyle focused on experiences, connections, and sharing the beauty of the world through our YouTube channel, Learning to Travel.

Our travels today are guided by our mission to create videos that go beyond our personal experiences. We focus on showcasing destinations, cultures, and tips to help others travel smarter and deeper. It’s not just about where we go—it’s about what we learn, who we meet, and how we can share that knowledge with others.

In addition to creating travel content, we run UPTRN, our full-time video production company. This work allows us to combine our passion for storytelling with our commitment to quality content.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We’ve been part of the Couchsurfing community for over 10 years and have loved every minute of it! From hosting travelers in our home in Colorado to staying with incredible people around the world, Couchsurfing has been a vital part of our journey. These days, we primarily use it as a way to connect with locals while traveling, always seeking that insider’s perspective that makes every trip richer and more authentic.

CURRENT MISSION
To inspire and empower others to explore the world, one meaningful connection at a time. Through our travels and YouTube videos, we aim to deepen our understanding of the places we visit while helping others discover their own adventures.

PHILOSOPHY
We believe in:

- Investing in experiences and relationships over material possessions.
- Learning, growing, and sharing what we’ve learned with others.
- Exploring with curiosity and an open heart.

Life is short, so we’re making the most of it—traveling, creating, and connecting with amazing people along the way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We've hosted over 20 surfers over the years and have also surfed couches around the world. We look forward to meeting up with many more as we continue to travel. Our current home has a couch available and we've made that work.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far we have surfed couches in Colorado, NYC, Belize, South Africa, Germany, and Italy. And met up with CSers all over. We've also hosted many at our Old Town home in Fort Collins Colorado USA. All have been great experiences where we made new friends.

These days, we primarily use it as a way to connect with locals while traveling, always seeking that insider’s perspective that makes every trip richer and more authentic.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I love sea turtles (you may, at this point, have guessed correctly, that this is Joyce typing) and my most amazing recent experiences have been snorkeling with adult green turtles in Belize and releasing baby hawksbill turtles on the beach in Jamaica. Not only were the turtles amazing, but the man who owns the stretch of the beach they nest on was impressive for the personal mission he's adopted to really learn about them and protect them.

Teach, Learn, Share

Joyce - expertise to share in nonprofit event management & fundraising in general.
Daryle - expertise in internet marketing, writing, and photography.
Joyce - struggling to develop more advanced Spanish skills and would love some practice. I'd also love help on my mission to learn to surf.

We also love food, so if you are interested in making a dish from your home country, we'd love to try it.
