About Me

My name is Joyce, I'm Brazilian and I'm 40 years old. I travel the world by bicycle, in a simple way, cooking my own food, wild camping or in the garden of local people, sleeping in churches, temples, schools, fire departments, police stations, gas stations (any safe places), and using Couchsurfing and Warmshowers communities, because I love the contact with the locals.

In 2013 I received the diagnosis of an autoimmune, neurodegenerative disease with no cure, and I decided to make my biggest dream come true... to travel around the world. And why not by bicycle?

I left Brazil in 2016 to travel the world by bicycle with Fábio, without a deadline to return to our country. We had never traveled by bicycle before and we didn't have any experience with long distances, but we acquired it during the trip and we are still around the world. We crossed New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and took a trip through India without our bikes. We lived in Malaysia for 1 year and a half, and when the pandemic started, in March 2020, we were crossing Myanmar, so we decided to return to Thailand, where we have been during 3 years, teaching English for children in the most rural region of the country.

When we crossed Malaysia for the first time, in 2017, we did volunteer work at a cat sanctuary on Penang Island and also at a cooking school.

I like to travel slowly, spending more time with the new friends I make on the road, experiencing the daily lives of local people, learning more about the culture and religion of each country, and enjoying the opportunities that appear along the way.

Now, in July 2023, I got back to the road with my bicycle to cross Europe, from Portugal to Turkey.

I like using Couchsurfing because I love meeting new friends, listening, and sharing good stories, knowledge, and experiences. Visiting beautiful places is amazing, but what makes our trip special are the people!

Meu nome é Joyce, sou brasileira e tenho 40 anos.
