About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get to know Ireland and write my PhD

ABOUT ME

Pensive with an inclination to the absurd. Sometimes spend too much time in my own thoughts but I'm usually able to come back down to earth. I like provocative and funny people with a good sense of perspective. I traveled quite a lot but have to admit to be a little eurocentric. I don't mind traveling on my own but I'm always very happy when I meet people I have a connection with.

Currently studying for my doctorate in philosophy at UCD Dublin, reading a lot, organizing some academic events, and traveling to visit my friends in different places as well as to conferences.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm interested in inertia (resistance to change) in people, political systems and structures in general. Seems like a pretty general topic. It is. Otherwise I'm pretty stoic, I tend to laziness but have to keep myself busy to enjoy life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Just joined, but definitely willing to offer a couch once I'm settled again and circumstances allow.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None so far!

Interests

Art, current affairs, history, philosophy, cooking, outdoor activity (walking climbing cycling). Got back to doing Aikido after a long break. Have been getting more into theatre after moving to Dublin. Liked plays by Beckett, Flann O'Brien and Ibsen so far, as well as some new experimental stuff.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: District 9, Being There, Inglorious Basterds
Books: Being and Time, War and Peace, Harry Potter, Proust, Houellebecq

Teach, Learn, Share

I know more than most people about certain parts of philosophy (Heidegger, Hegel, Foucault, Derrida if you're interested) which of course reflects on my general ideas about the world and everything else. I also know how to make pasta al ragú the way they do it in Bologna (or at least the way someone does it in Bologna) and I know how to tune a guitar. I can also sow (sew? saw? with fabric and needle and thread I mean), fix bycicles (when it's simple) and computers (when any idiot can do it).

What I would really want to learn is more about building with straw and clay. I did a volunteering project about this a while ago, and you can build the most amazing environmentally friendly buildings with materials from the area.

For the rest, I would like to learn more about philosophy (it's what I do most of the time) and about music, I would love to be able to play an instrument well but the furthest I've gotten so far is rudimentary skills on clarinet and guitar. I would also like to learn more about (organic) gardening and husbandry (that's what keeping animals is called, right?)
