ABOUT ME

I started my work-life as a dishwasher. It was not for love of labor. Sixteen years later, I'm still in a restaurant. I don't think it's my life's work, but it has become a labor of love.

I'm not comfortable letting my job define me, but these days it seems I work more than I play.

I should write more often.

Sometimes I have a beard.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I moved to Austin for a little while and got a job writing content for a (now defunct) website devoted to local music. I joined Couchsurfing as a way to reach out to area musicians. It worked. Some great articles came out of that. When I moved back to DC one of my subjects contacted me when he was coing through town on tour and I booked him a gig at my bar. He brought a good crowd. Everyone wins.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently saw two mimes get into an honest to goodness brawl. At first I thought it might be a bit of street theatre, but then they started yelling. A third mime tried to break it up but he was too drunk to be effective.
