About Me

I'm an American living in Canada with my partner (who I met through Couch Surfing!) I am a long-time member of the CS community and love what this site represents and all of the great experiences I've had with CS guests and hosts over the years.

I love talking to strangers and turning them into friends. I spend most of my free time doing active/outdoorsy things: yoga, cycling, kayaking, long walks in the city.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Sharing kindness and generosity with strangers makes me happy to be alive in this world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Rule of the Bone by Russell Banks is a long-time favorite novel. I love everything by Alice Munro. Since moving to Canada from the U.S. a coupe of years ago I'm starting to find some other great Canadian authors, like Miriam Toews and Heather O'Neill.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I cycled 900+ miles across Switzerland, Italy and France in September 2018. It was just as amazing as it sounds!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a decent vegetarian cook, a strong writer and editor and as a former journalist, I know a bit, but only a bit, about a broad, random variety of subjects. I'm good at introducing people to each other, books, and other things that might interest them.

I'm always interested in learning about other people's life experiences, in part because that's how to get to know them, but it also helps you understand how the world really works, as opposed to how we're told or assume it works. That kind of knowledge is really important to me.

I aspire to speak decent Spanish someday, and especially to learn how to salsa dance - well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good stories, general friendliness, and future hospitality in Toronto!
