About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Not to take life too seriously

ABOUT ME

I am a physiotherapist working in the Shetland Islands, Scotland. I am from Newfoundland, Canada. Since moving to Shetland as a single person in 2017, my family has grown rapidly to include my partner, my daughter, 2 step children, 2 dogs, a horse and a lot of reptiles. This makes hosting much more complicated, so at the moment I am really only available to meet up for a chat or offer any help or advice.

I am very easy going and probably lifes biggest fan!
I love meeting new people and sharing stories. I am a vegan (of the non-preachy variety) who adores animals and the outside. I hate enclosed spaces and things flying at my face. I fall down a lot.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in surrounding yourself with the most positive people possible. Being around life enthusiast makes you a life enthusiast.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Since having my daughter and living with my step
children half the time, I don’t have the same flexibility to host as I once did. I am therefore only able to meet up at the moment or offer any advice to people coming to Shetland.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I started couchsurfing in 2013. My first csing experience was in Galway, Ireland. Since then I have been hosted in multiple countries. I moved to the UK from Canada to study my masters but I also wanted to be able to travel more. I prefer getting to know a place by the people rather than just the tourist attractions. Since moving to Shetland, I am travelling less. I hate flying in general but used to manage it with meds and large planes when I lived on the mainland. Here, the planes are tiny and hell. The boat used to be my friend but we are now also having a falling out.

Interests

I love animals (especially horses!), anything outdoorsie, sustainability and reading. Big fan of anything random!

I am very easy to please and tend to get very excited over the littlest things in life.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I adore movies. If I could just go to films all the time ... I probably wouldn't... BUT I would go a lot.. or at least a mediocre amount. My favourite films (at the moment) are Lord of the Rings, Amelie, Chocolat, Inception, He's just not that into you, RENT, Inglorious Bastards, Before Sunrise/Before Sunset/Before Midnight & Titanic

Music: I tend to get obsessed with just one of two artists at a time and just listen to them to death until someone gives me something else to obsess over. Forever faves are Hey Rosetta, Leonard Cohen & Backstreet Boys (I'm 12)

Books: I love to read. Fiction or non-fiction, whatever! Currently I am obsessed with Anne Tyler.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I get awestruck by a lot of things but one of my favourite travel experiences was the epic day of fun in Sligo, Ireland where I met the best people on earth, went stand up paddle boarding to the Isle of Innisfree, had a private Irish trad session in a thatched roof pub and crashed a wedding at a castle where we stayed in the "Johnny Cash" room.

Teach, Learn, Share

I feel as if I don't have a whole lot of teach...but I am always ready to learn!
I am quite an idiot when it comes to the world and how to function properly in it so please, tell me everything you know so I can play catch up!

If you are traveling to Scotland or Canada and would like some tips please send me a message and I would be more than happy to help! I also would love to meet up if you need some help getting around :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will be nice to you for sure, unless you’re really exceptionally terrible. I can’t host at the moment but would love to meet up or help in any way I can :)
