Overview
About Me
I'm pretty easy going; it takes a lot to frustrate me, or even ruffle my metaphorical feathers. I enjoy good conversation over some beer or wine and think food is probably the most delicious thing in life. I studied fine art photographer in college but see myself as more of a general political and technology orientated artist. Image making wise I mostly have done documentary work. I'm interested in urban development, technology, and globalization. You can check out my photography at jeremystarn.com
I've been living in Thailand for the last year working for an ngo and community news outlet. One year in any place is enough for me and its time to move on.
I enjoy traveling alone where I can make all the mistakes and revel in my naiveness. But meeting all the different kinds of people along the road is one of the best parts of traveling.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing has been one of the most rewarding ways to travel. For better or worse it always makes a good story in the end.
I first surfed in 2009 when I was backpacking around Europe for a couple of months. It was by far the best decision I made and always think back to it.
Interests
I play piano, and like to read. Getting lost in a new city is always a lot of fun.
I also enjoy poor writing, cheap beer and good company. Being a bit of an introvert once past the point of superficial niceties, I really just enjoy an engaging conversation about what makes people tick and listening to the current state of whatever makes up peoples world.
I like to go out to bars sometimes, and dancing has a place and time, but it's really the company that matters. I'd rather sit with friends, drink and tell stories than pretend that I can hear the person talking to me at a club.

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy fiction and some non-fiction. I do like to read a lot, especially when I'm traveling. A good story makes me want to go on an adventure.
I've been really into David Foster Wallace but I don't understand most of it. Tom Robbins blows my mind and I just started reading some Salman Rushdie after traveling in India for a couple weeks and really enjoy his style.
I enjoy some good hearty folk music, but any blues/rock/hippity hoppity r&b is great. it's all good. There's really no bad music in the world as long as it's genuine. If it's produced to make money it's probably lacking something, but doesn't mean it has no place.
Life without movies would be...well a rather boring life. To name a few, The Life Aquatic, Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, little miss sunshine, inglorious basterds, the fly, videodrome. I think you can tell a lot about a person by the movies they watch.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've flown around the world. Well, technically. Not like in one shot, or even a few shots, but like, over the course of several years, stopping a lot.
I also participated in student protests in Thailand when the military overthrew the government last year There are some brave fucking people in the world and I'm proud to say I know some.
Teach, Learn, Share
We can all teach learn and share everything we know. And collectively we all know quite a bit.
