ABOUT ME

I'm a 23 year old gay guy living in Chicago attending graduate school at DePaul University. After trying several different avenues I think I have finally decided that my calling is to work in the nonprofit sector. I'm passionate about politics, environmental issues, geography, history, and architecture and I think the best way for me to fulfill all of my interests is to serve the interests of others.

PHILOSOPHY

I think that my personal philosophy that I commonly get laughed at by friends and family about is that I aspire to do big things. While I know that sounds cliche, I mean that I have so many plans and goals in life it makes myself seem as if I am an indecisive and confused person. In reality, I just like to have a plan for what I am going to do in life and by dreaming big it gives me room to grow as a person. I feel that as I continue to mature, I have realized through whatever I do, I desire to teach others how everyone is connected and that while we may have different religious and cultural beliefs we are not that different.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've met several people that have this preconcieved notion that Chicago is this dirty city filled with crime is uninviting. I want to meet people from all around the world who come to visit Chicago to see what it has to offer and would love to experience the same from others when i visit their city and experience their culture.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I have only hosted two people and stayed with one person but they have all been great! My boyfriend has met quite a few amazing people that he has nothing but the upmost respect for so I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. We are living in Barcelona from June until August 24th and will be traveling to Santorini, Venice, and Berlin during that time and are looking for some fellow surfers to possibly meet up for coffee or show us around. We'd be more than happy to do the same for those who ever visit Chicago! :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I am fairly open to music and movies although I have a weakness for typical "chick flicks" and romantic comedies. As for reading, I tend to enjoy historical non fiction and fiction thrillers. My favorite fictional author right now would have to be Christopher Rice.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking through the Andes mountains to see Machu Picchu. It was the most surreal experience I have had so far. Definitely a trip worth making!

Teach, Learn, Share

Growing up in the Chicago area my entire life I tend to know a lot of wierd quirky facts about Chicago and the politics pertaining to this great city. I really like to plan plan plan so I feel that I would be a great person to show fellow surfers around Chicago to see what we're all about. I really want to travel the world and learn everything I possibly can, historical and present so I can become a more well-rounded person. I hope that the knowledge I gain will help me become a more effective citizen to teach others that I meet. I hope to someday live in Peru and work for/operate an NGO possibly doing microfinance to help empower underserved populations; if you work for an NGO in Peru or do microfinance anywhere in Latin America, hit me up, I'd like to hear your story! :)
