Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

To quench my thirst for knowledge

ABOUT ME

I've finished my university degree, and now I'm off to experience whatever comes my way! I really have no idea what to do with my life, but I know that I'd like to do something that helps people. I've tried my hand at teaching, but would really like to work for a charity. I love Spain and Spanish , hence living there for 2 years as an English assistant. I also love learning; new languages, cultures, traditions, any new information really! I attempt to be optimistic and have an unforgettable laugh.

Contrary to the popular British stereotype, I do NOT like beer, football, or normal tea with milk. Therefore, I realise that this makes me 'not a proper Brit', but then my mother is Irish and my father is Portuguese, so I wasn't really British to begin with!

PHILOSOPHY

I think that, although other people and events do affect your life, ultimately you are the one that changes it for better or for worse - so choose well!

Also, smiling and being nice to people never hurts!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a super-surfer at the moment, but when I settle down into another place/country I would love to host as well - the people you meet and the moments you share are too good to miss out on.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I still consider myself a CS rookie, but the experiences I've had with this marvellous network so far have been generally fabulous! The trust I have been shown has been incredible.

Musica, film e libri

Films: Happy Feet, Lion King, The Incredibles, Hercules (because I'm a child inside), Stardust, The Holiday, El Mar Adentro, Atame, Todo Sobre Mi Madre, Shrek, Ironman, Bridget Jones, Into the Wild, Rat Race, Sound of Music, Un Novio para mi Mujer, I Am Sam, Dead Man Walking (I'm a bit of a Sean Penn fan), Walle, The King's Speech

Music: Motown (THE TEMPTATIONS for sure - smooth voices and even smoother moves, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, etc), Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Buble, Kate Nash, Dizzee Rascal, Black Eyed Peas, James Morrison, Corinne Bailey Rae, The Beatles, Queen, Kings of Leon, Shakira, Beyonce, James Brown, Sin Bandera . . . anything that's not Heavy Metal really, and I've now been introduced to Country music as well! Patsy Cline gets me every time.

Books: The Narnia series, Harry Potter, His Dark Materials series, Sabriel, Girl with the Pearl Earring, Pride and Prejudice, The Boy in the Striped Pijamas, The Time Traveller's Wife, Travels with Herodotus, Papillon, The Help, The Happiness Project, Eat Pray Love.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

I really love snorkelling when I'm in Kenya, and it always amazes me to see all the fish and coral that live in the Indian Ocean.

Being in a Basque Sagardotegi (cider house) at the same time as a traditional Basque band; they finished their meal, picked up an instrument in one hand, a glass of cider in the other, and began to play wonderful traditional Basque tunes, whilst everyone else in the place danced and sang along - fantastic!

Meeting disabled Kenyan children through my friend's charity - they were the happiest kids I've seen, they didn't let their situation get them down, and that's truly inspirational.

Insegna, impara, condividi

A lesson I have learnt the hard way is that one about putting all your eggs in one basket - you should try and have a Plan B where possible, but the most important thing I learnt was not to let dissapointment get the better of you; there are always other options, don't give up!

Another philosophy I'm attempting to adopt is that of worrying less about situations out of my control, I've definitely made progress, but that little worry bug creeps up on me every so often when I really don't need to be worrying about anything!

I can teach you English or Spanish, how to make a Shepherd's pie or a tortilla de patatas, and what a Kalimotxo is ;)
