About Me

Hey, my name is Juan, I am a classical pianist and technician. My two passions are music and food. I've an apartment in Palermo neighborhood in Buenos Aires but I move around a lot. Right this second on a train back to Prague from Lille, and soon moving near Ghent.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have heard quite a few great experiences from friends who where hosted through the site, so I wanted to try it out. I genuinely enjoy meeting new people, sharing perspectives, life stories. I'm eternally curious, so I usually ask a lot of small and detailed questions, maybe about jobs, families, food recipes, or anything that catches my attention inexplicably.

I've surfed a bit, have yet to host but I'd love to when I have settled somwhere... Currently I don't have a clear country of residence :)

Interests

I'm an absolute nerd for what I do. I'm in love with my trade and with pianos. Do what you like and you won't have to work a single day of your life right? Apart from that, I am a bit of a computer and general tech nerd, have an unredeemable attraction for games in general (yes, I do play MTG and Hearthstone), and also into photography although I am not really good at it. And always food, there's maybe 3 or 4 things I "don't like" but still can't eat. Train your pallate! It's a fun excercise.

Music, Movies, and Books

Ok, you know when you ask someone what music do they like? I always make a small introduction because my answer is odd even for me. I like a lot of genres, but I almost exclusively listen to classical music, from all periods (not so much into contemporary). What can I say, it's a passion of mine, I don't have ONE favourite composer, it varies in time. But if I get obsessed with one, I can listen to the same CD, playlist or track, over and over again for months. To name a few: Kapustin, Ravel, Chopin, Mozart, Rachmaninov, Schubert, Bach, Scriabin.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 11, my mom put a lot of effort into convincing me to enter a piano casting, for a tv show. I don't know how she managed to do it because I was incredibly shy and didn't like that kind of competition (still don't!). The casting ended up being for a kid's rock band, but all I knew was classical pieces. I played one and went home. One week later they said I had been selected, and I was panicking. We started the rehearsals, it was only once a week, and then the recording session in the tv studio once a month.

Since I got serious with classical music a few years ago, I've had many other experiences to compare it with, but this was actually one of the best I had in my life, so much fun (except when we recorded at the TV studio, I could never escape my awkwardness!).

Teach, Learn, Share

I am not sure about the teaching, maybe the only things I feel comfortable teaching others are some recipes. Even in that case, "share" with be a more suitable word. I'd say I am an eternal student, not only with the piano and the cooking: I love to learn new things, get to know a lot of people and see life from different perspectives, learn languages, a new hobby, pretty much anything. My curiosity has yet to find it's limit.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have two small diplomas which claim I'm a cook and a pastry chef, the truth is I'm only an amateur. What I can share are many recipes and techniques. Of course some of them quite typical from Argentina. In case you have a piano at home, I can always share some music :)
