Hello My name is Juan, I am from Colombia but have lived in Canada for many years.
I came to study English for a few months, but ended up staying and made Calgary my home.

I have a degree in Economics and I am Chartered Professional Accountant.
I enjoy working for the not for profit sector.

I love to travel, and Asia is one of my favorite regions. I have visited Korea, Japan, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Philippines.

My biggest hobby back home is hiking, I live in the Rocky Mountains and I love to spend time in the back country.

I started diving a few years ago, in fact I got certified in Cambodia, so one of my objectives in this trip is to explore some amazing scuba dive sites.

I’m currently traveling through Asia for the next 5 months, started in Korea, I will work my way through south east Asia and end in India in November.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

What a better way to meet the locals, learn about their culture, traditions, family values and learn about all those hidden special places that only locals know, than Couchsurfing.
I would also love to have people visiting me at home and being part of their adventure!

Interests

Travel, travel, travel.... I love my bicycle... I dream to leave in a City were cars don't exist and everyone bikes everywhere.
I started diving a few years ago and I’m really looking forward to diving in Asia.
I like watching movies, camping and any outdoor activities. I live in the Rocky Mountains so hiking in the summer is something I really enjoy.
In the winter I love skiing, I'm lucky to leave close to a few of the best skiing spots in the world.
I love to dance makes me really happy.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love electronic music, I’m trying to explore the underground EDM scene in the City’s where I can. Indie Rock, classical music.... I guess I love most music, I'm not into heavy metal thou.
My favorite movie is Cloud Atlas, I watched it way too many times and I decided to get the book. I'm reading it right now, so hopefully I'll finish it during my trip and I can leave it back in Asia for someone to enjoy it as much as I am.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Stayed with the native communities in the Guajira desert in northern Colombia. Shared a week with them, no electricity, no electronics, went to bed (hammock) with the sun and woke up to the roosters and the fisherman at 5am... amazing experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd love to teach salsa and merengue, dancing is something I very much enjoy. I am not an expert, but dancing will always be fun!

I want to learn from as many cultures as possible, learn about traditions, food (I'd love to learn to cook), their history and if I have the luxury of share a bit of your family life that is priceless.

I'd like to share my culture. I am very proud of my Colombian background and I would like to share who I am with everyone. I would also love to share everything I know about Canada and the beautiful nature we have here. If you come to visit, I'd love to share my precious bicycle with you :)
