About Me
Hello there!
I've spent years road tripping around America, making new friends and seeing the sights. I love exploring new cities and towns and music venues and restaurants and downtowns and ice cream parlor and microbreweries and parks and everything else, but my favorite is discovering beautiful new places in the back country that only locals know about.
I currently live in magical Santa Fe, a place I ended up pretty much my accident. I lived in Israel for two years and I'm fluent in Hebrew and Yiddish. My teen years and early twenties were spent in a Yeshiva studying Talmud so I'm quite fluent in Aramaic as well. Over the past five years I've explored a few other countries, with Morocco being my favorite. Turns out you can cover Morocco from top to bottom in about three weeks!
I have a deep love affair with books and always travel with many of them. Going into someones home where there are absolutely no books can be a disorienting experience, so if you have a shortage I'd be happy to share some with you...or at least offer a few recommendations. Cooking is one of my favorite activities and I love whipping up an Israeli breakfast for the house or joining with my CS host to make something new for everyone! I also play the guitar and djembe and would love to introduce you to some Hasidic folk music, but I'm just as happy jamming out to some Grateful Dead or The Band.
So far my CS experience has been truly spectacular. The people I've stayed at have been so generous, interesting kind and unique. Everyone has a story to tell and I want to hear them all. I'm always respectful of my host and their space and try to be as helpful as I can when staying in their home. It's always nice to go out and explore with a new friend, but I'm fine spending time on my own as well.
Looking forward to meeting you!
Interests
I love books and always travel with many of them. Always happy to swap books and recommendations! Americana, southern gothic and exploration narratives are my favorite fiction genres; cultural anthropology, hauntology, history (American and age of exploration) and ethnology are my favorite non fiction genres.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I did a midnight climb to the top of Mount Sinai in Egypt and watched the sunrise over the desert.
Spent two nights at the worlds largest religious pilgrimage site, the venkateswara temple in Tirupati, India, with a friend I met in Bangalore and one friend from the States. We were the only non locals there among over 200,000 pilgrims and it was the most intense, beautiful and completely new experience I've ever had.
Spent three nights in the fall camping in Valley of the Gods in SE Utah with absolutely nobody else in this spectacular piece of American back country.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach guitar, djembe, Hebree, Yiddish, Middle Eastern cooking, engine repair, and a whole lot about books and history.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I have a big truck if you need a little hauling done.
