About Me

CURRENT MISSION

looking at things in more than one way

ABOUT ME

mmmm..difficult to say...I am quite a mystery to myself sometimes...so it's better that you find out yourself bit by bit...

PHILOSOPHY

There is no 'one and only' right way.
Let's keep going for the Black Swan.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I recently discovered the couchsurfing netwerk via my son Max (21). I am still exploring its possibilities.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

1. My parents used to (and still like to) offer a place to stay to all kind of 'wandering' people so I kind of learned to share my home with others since I was a kid.

2. I had my first experiences with CS in april 2012. A nice way to meet people you probably would never meet.

Interests

Learning new skills, reading, gardening, walking, cycling (we have a marvellous routesystem in Belgium especially for bikers), trying to live and work as ecological as possible, more and more...

  • walking
  • gardening
  • reading
  • socializing
  • cycling

Music, Movies, and Books

Actually I quite like to read non-fiction. When I was a kid I loved 'de dikke Van Daele' (the big Dutch dictionary) and I still do.

I recently enjoyed reading:
- Alle mensen heten Janus, by André Klukhuhn, Dutch philosopher and chemist, a book about the relationship between science, arts and religion.

- Wat Blijft, by Flemish philosopher Patricia de Martelaere, a reflexion on the space between 'something' and 'nothing'

- Tegen de methode (Against Method), by German philosopher Paul Feyerabend, a plea for homo ludens in thought and science (I think. I must admit that I did'nt understand half of it but I kept reading it till the end.)

- De ambachtsman (The Craftsman), by sociologist Richard Sennet, about our relation to work.

- The Black Swan, by Libanese risk engeneer and trader Nassim Nicholas Taleb, about the Impact of the highly improbable in life.

I don't like music at the background that's why I like to meet people in the ChessCafé near La Bourse/De Beurs in Brussels.
When I want to listen to music I'd rather sit down and just listen. I enjoy many different kinds of music depending on my mood: chansons, classical music, opera, contemporary music, rock, pop, blues,..to name a few: Bach, Brel, Flath Earth Society, Mildred Baily, Morton Feldman, Stravinsky, Think of one, Wannes Van de Velde...

Films or directors I like:
Die Fälscher (Ruzowitzky)
Lars Von Trier (Dancer in the dark, Dogville)
Bin-jip (Kim Ki-duk)
Le Fils (frères Dardenne)
Kusturica (Underground, Black Cat White Cat,...)
Almodovar (Volver, Habla con ella...)
The sacrifice (Tarkovsky)
...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

giving birth at home (the air full of expectation, attention, love, joy, gratefulness, mystery, openess, intensity,...)
