About Me

EDIT: I haven't edited this in a while, but I'm guessing I haven't changed that much :-)
Actualmente viviendo en Madrid, dedicándome a proyectos artísiticos y a enseñar castellano. El perfil está desactualizado, pero tampoco cambié tanto, en el fondo, fondo.

Hey there!
So what could I say about myself... I was born in Madrid 21 years ago and had been living there ever since. Still, I started enjoying the city as something "mine" not that long ago. At 19 I went living on my own, and that's was then when my life truly started.

Not sure about wanting to do any of the degrees available in my city I decided to get a job and I allowed myself to enjoy the moment, dive into art, meet people and discover the infinite ways of living, understanding and loving life. It's not always so easy to see the positive side of struggling for freedom, but one way or another intense emotions are always the fuel.

At the beginning of February 2016 I got another opportunity: to go living to Eastern Germany with a lovely friend of mine. I already had some money saved, and realised that moving 2.000km into Europe's heart would allow me to travel to new places easily. So that's what I did for a few months, and later I returned to Madrid to work again.

And now I'm again willing to travel! I feel very lucky for what I have now, so that's always one of the signs that I'm ready for a change :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

F. Pessoa once wrote: 'Thinking is not knowing how to exist'.
What truly matters for me is feeling, and contemplating. And that's what traveling gives me. I also really like meeting people who want to share with me their point of view of what 'living' truly is!

Interests

Learning, changing, sharing, loving, odd numbers.
Improvising.

I'm into audiovisual arts, with a tiny little background in photography, theatre, filmmaking and music.

I love dancing; music is life. I love spending time in nature and learning about its 'behaviour'. I love interacting with animals and supporting vegan lifestyles.

Reading and writing. Novels, poetic prose, philosophical writings, essays.

Also: languages, cultures, cooking, sports, crafts, sleeping. Whenever I see the sunlight or a bigger waterbody I can't help but approach it.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC
My latest obsessions have been Lior Shoov, Lhasa de Sela, Bowie, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, Chavela Vargas, Nina Simone and other powerful artists. Really close to my heart remain other groups and musicians such as Patti Smith, Radiohead, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Leonard Cohen, José Gonzalez, Bob Dylan and many others I feel guilty for not remembering and mentioning right now . Recent discoveries: PJ Harvey, Genesis, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Vincent Gallo.

People I've had the luck to listen to live (and you should definitely check out): Perotá Chingó, Lady Pepper, Pan Chimzee, Dorian Wood, Matej Ptaszek, Emilia Lazo (!!!). And in general, people I've listened to at blues and jam sessions in Madrid.

I dig buskers.

MOVIES
A few movies that have moved me recently are: Harold and Maude (H. Ashby), Teorema (Pasolini), La Pianiste (Haneke), Into The Wild (S. Penn), Annie Hall (W. Allen), In The Mood For Love (W. Kar-wai).
I'm not much of a series person, but Black Mirror and The Office (US Version) are my exceptions.

BOOKS
I usually read Spanish or Latin American authors since I prefer original versions - the classics mostly. Not long ago I was able to overcome one of my insecurities: poetry. And I'm diggin' it now, it's a whole new world.
F. Pessoa and Alejandra Pizarnik are my soulmates.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One summer I was working in a farm, where I would go out in the field on a horse (Paris, my love), with no saddle, to count the sheep. Then I'd get in the river and clean him from all the dust and mud (also to clean myself from all the dust and mud). I peeled potatoes next to a bunch of crazy ducks. I played harmonica on a tree. Slept in a haystack between jumping kittens. All of that felt so magical.
