About Me

I'm a adventurous person with wanderlust, especially now that I'm moving from full-time teaching and administration. I love to travel, write, and garden. Cooking for friends and vibrant wide-ranging conversations about the meaning of life, culture, books, and movies over a glass of wine are favorite activities. I find great solace in nature and enjoy hiking, kayaking, and wildlife spotting. I also appreciate live music, theater, and storytelling. I've enjoyed connecting with people I've met internationally, and look forward to engaging with folks who are on the road for whatever reason. I do have a drug and smoke-free home, and live in a quiet neighborhood, and would expect any visitors to respect that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am interested in connecting with warm-hearted interesting folks along the road, as well as hosting those who are visiting East Lansing.

Music, Movies, and Books

Love jazz, folk, classical. My favorite recent movie was "Moonlight," but I want to see RBG badly. I read widely, from international fiction to American memoirs. A recent favorite as "Educated" by Tara Westover.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Gone on a safari in the Serengeti, Tanzania.

Teach, Learn, Share

All things Michigan, including the MSU campus, cool parts of Lansing, good food, favorite birding haunts, hiking trails, coffee shops, live music. In terms of skills, I've taught writing and published, am a good cook, and have read widely about all types of interesting things, including American culture and politics. If anyone is exploring the academic scene, I have spent most of my adult life in that space. I'm also involved in yoga and meditation.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a fairly spacious home in a neighborhood that is walking distance to the campus of Michigan State University and downtown East Lansing.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, France, Greece, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Martin (French part), Tanzania, Turkey
