About Me

I was born to a French father and New Yorker mother. Born and raised in Dijon, France for the early part of my life, I have been a traveler with a deep connection to my bi-cultural roots. I grew up in Connecticut but have lived and traveled around the world for the past 7 years. I'm an active person, believing that life is a journey and every person you meet along the path has something to teach you.

I am also an outdoor mama - and at any given time am seeking my next opportunity to go hiking, swimming, kayaking, spelunking, off-trail exploring. This tendency is coupled with my love and study of the natural world - flora, fauna, science and ecosystem studies, from dissecting a bromeliad to uncover its inner workings or observing the understory and species composition of tropical cloud forests.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I may be available to host or allow people to camp on my land. Its a beautiful area and my house is walkable to Kapa'au (less than a mile away) and Hawi, (just under 2 miles away) the two main towns in North Kohala. There's also a running and walking trail just steps outside my front door.

I love to learn about other people's philosophies, how they live their lives, what they value, what drives their spirit and what brought them to Hawaii! The Big Island in particular is a special place, a place to be honored and respected, and I believe there are no coincidences as to what we are drawn to and why. I'd love to share, time-permitting, some of the beautiful places of my island home with the curious spirit!

The last time I was active on couch-surfing was when I lived in North Carolina in 2014 where my housemate and I hosted world travelers for a year. It was amazing! At this time, I prefer females only.

Interests

I pursue a green lifestyle: bike instead of drive, compost and garden, reduce-reuse-recycle and monitor my energy consumption. Since moving to Hawaii, Hawaiian culture and plants (la'au lapa'au) are one of my primary interests as well as Qi-gong, studying the Tao (trying to live in harmony with it more like) and studying to return to pursue a Masters. Traveling and learning about the world is a big part of my life - In the United States, I've lived in Vermont, North Carolina, Connecticut, New York, Hawaii and worldly: Australia, Senegal, France and the Caribbean.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swam at only 1 of 2 olivine (green sand) beaches in the world, a remote, dry, and wind-swept place at the bottom of the Big Island of Hawaii

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: Did you know that earthworms were not native to New England (the northeast of the US). Yep, they were brought over in ballast from the ships from Europe. They are now everywhere and we consider them a naturalized part of the soil.

Learn: Ecological design and engineering to re-purpose waste streams and close the loop

Share: My most joyful moments come from overcoming obstacles with others - 18 mile rugged day hikes, deep scuba-diving adventures, cooking feats of local and unusual food creations

What I Can Share with Hosts

- Gardening tips, seeds, ideas and design plans
- Teaching you French, french culture and foods
- Avid cooker specializing in wholistic health and whole, raw foods
- My understandings of hawaiian culture, history and nature (with no pretense to be an expert)
- playing music together (I sing and play guitar)
