About Me

I'm half German, half Colombian, and I grew up in the United States. Currently I am studying in the Netherlands for a semester, and in August I will return to the US to finish my studies.

Because I come from such a multicultural background, I had the opportunity to travel a lot as a child and learn many languages. My parents both raised me with their native languages, and in addition to taking courses in French and Portuguese, I've tried to teach myself Italian and Dutch. I've lived longterm in Germany and the US, and short-term in Australia and the Netherlands.

I'm excited about traveling and meeting new people, I'm open minded, and very easy to get along with. Another thing: I LOVE food. I especially love when I get to cook for other people and make something they will really love. I've tried food from many parts of the world, and trying new foods is one of my favorite parts of traveling. I'd be happy to trade recipes, cook together, or try a fun restaurant together while I am visiting your city!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm very new to Couchsurfing, as I'm pretty new to traveling on my own. One of my goals for my semester abroad in the Netherlands was to meet as many new people as possible and visit as many new places as I could. Couchsurfing is a great way to kill two birds with one stone.

When I travel, I don't like to seem like a tourist or only visit touristy places, so being hosted by a local who can give me a local's perspective on their city is ideal.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm into a lot of different kinds of music, but my favorite is Spanish music, both the old music from Colombia that my mom raised me with, and the new Spanish artists like J Balvin, Luis Fonsi, and Becky G.

I prefer TV shows over Movies (most of my favorite shows are sitcoms, police dramas, and food and travel shows), but when I do watch movies I like to watch comedies, indie films, and foreign films. My favorite serious film is Amelie but my guilty pleasure chick flick is Eat Pray Love.

When I was young, I was obsessed with reading, mostly YA fantasy novels (especially the Harry Potter series), but really any book I could get my hands on was good enough. Once I started High School and I started aging out of the kinds of books I used to read, I lost touch with my hobby and haven't been able to get back into it since. Any recommendations are welcome :)
What I do really love is listening to podcasts, which helps me stay in touch with the news and current events, and follow really good journalism and stories that are being told through podcasts. (Mostly American ones, but I'm open to recommendations!)
